Legal RequirementsSome legal requirements that has been enforced by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) are:Teachers required to follow modification(s) on students’ (IEP)LD students educated in regular classrooms, unless supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactory
Legal Requirements of InclusionServing all students with special needs in regular class Full inclusionSelf contained classroom
Legal and Instructional RequirementsIndividuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)This law challenges regular education teachers and forces public schools to place those students in the least restrictive environment possible. Schools have a responsibility to try to include students with disabilities in a regular classroom
Instructional Methods and StrategiesAdapt the number of items that the learner is expected to learn or completeAdapt the time allotted and allowed for learning, task completion, or testingIncrease the amount of personal assistance with a specific learner, such as teaching assistantsAdjust the way instruction is delivered to the learner, in particular the use of different visual aids, planning more concrete examples, and providing hands-on activities,  and placing students in cooperative groups
Instructional Methods and StrategiesThe skill level, problem type, or the rules on how the learner may approach the work must be adapted for instructionSome teachers may have to adapt how the student can respond to instruction, such as answering questions in writing, allowing a verbal response, use a communication book for some students, and allowing students to show knowledge with hands-on materialsAdapt the extent to which a learner is actively involved in the task; adapt the goals or outcome expectations while using the same materials and provide different instruction and materials to meet a student's individual goals
