Our story of change from ST.JOHNS INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL,CHENNAI,TAMIL NADU By- Anukh, Abilash, Somesh, Varun, Sidharth. MENTOR TEACHERs:- Mrs.Sheeja Thomas and Beulah A LIGHT IN THE DARK
STEP-1 FEEL Our school is situated on the high way from Chennai to Bangalore. We painfully came to know that a lot of fatal accidents had taken place on the high way. So we took an initiative to help in preventing these accidents from occurring .
A BUSY HIGHWAY In a busy highway as such this accidents are prone to occur. It is our responsibility to take care that nothing reckless happens.
INITIATING THE ACT So that in the night it would help the drivers on the highways to avoid accidents. When thinking on how to solve this problem, we got the brlliant idea of using reflectors on vehicles.
STEP 2: IMAGINE We thought that sticking reflectors on the parked vehicles would help to reduce the number of accidents occurring in the highway. For raising the amount of money needed for purchasing the reflectors we thought of asking our class mates to donate a small portion of their pocket money.
What we ought to do And stage a play that depicts the risk of neglecting traffic rules and reckless driving. All the members of our team planned to visit the nearby petrol bunks and parking lots.
STEP-3 DO We visited the near by petrol bunks. And we staged a small play on the awareness on “ROAD SAFETY “.
What really happened As the sun set down we searched for vehicles parked on the sides of the highway. We sighted a few vehicles and we stuck reflectors on them.
WHAT WE THOUGHT ? At the beginning, we thought we were just going to do a good deed, but when we heard the comments from the people like “your doing a good job!” , “Thanks a lot!” We understood that we are doing a commendable deed appreciated by the public.
What we experienced? Involving ourselves in this campaign gave us exciting satisfaction. We also came to know that we did our part in making a safer Chennai. And where ever you go “team work rocks”
What we learnt? We learnt how to communicate and make people understand about things when we are polite enough. People around us join hands with us when it comes to doing good deeds that will benefit the society .

FROM MENTOR-TEACHERS “ The ability to convert ideas to things is the secret to outward success. “ The goal was achieved not only as individuals but as a team. We never expected that our group of 5 children were able to play a part in helping the society towards a problem which many face in their daily life. Mrs.Sheeja Thomas, Mrs. Beulah
