• Not a day passes in our country without women and
girls becoming the victims of heinous crimes directed
at them.
• At first, most of us were oblivious to how severe and
widespread the situation has become in our nation.
FEEL

The whole of India woke up to the distressing reality
following the Nirbhaya Tragedy, and all the crimes
that followed.
• As a school, we felt deeply for the victims, and anger
arose at the thought of the villains of society.
• Summed up in the words of a student,
“These crimes, committed by people who are a
disgrace to society, are unforgivable. Everyone wants
this to stop. Everyone is looking for change.”
We became aware of the ugly truth, that any time, we
could also become victims of such crimes against
women. We knew that we were unprepared to handle
such situations, if they ever arose.
Imagine
• Initially, we got the students of our school to talk
about how to tackle the problem.
• Through class discussions, girls were encouraged to
respect themselves.
• At ‘Speakers’ Corner,' a platform through which
students express their views during the recess, we
listened to the ideas of our peers.
• Finally, we decided that teaching girls self-defense in
order to boost their self- confidence was the best
option.
• We chose this solution as it was relatively quick and
effective, and would have life-long benefits.
• ‘Krav Maga’ a martial art form which mainly focused
on real world situations was the perfect match.
We put forth our ideas to the Headmaster. A parent offered to
help organise classes to teach girls the‘Krav Maga’ form of
martial arts.
The programme, entitled ‘Life Skills: Krav
Maga Workshop’ would cover the
following:
• Techniques to increase strength and
fitness.
• Scenario-based simulations, awareness and
assessment of one’s surroundings.
• First-aid protocols and life saving
techniques.

• One major challenge we faced was a poor
response for the classes initially.
• An informative presentation was made,
which encouraged girls to take part by
demonstrating how beneficial the classes
would be.
• After this, the response was tremendous.
The Krav Maga classes in progress.
Mrs. Moscovich organised the Krav Maga training
for the girls of our school.
