- 2. Author Is there any Evidence that the author of the Web information has some authority in the field? What are the author’s Qualifications
- 3. Institution With what institution or organization is the site associated? Is there evidence of a sponsoring organization or Instutution?
- 4. Prejudice I there evidence that the author is biased? Are they taking a personal stand on their favorite cause? Are they selling or promoting a product
- 5. Current Is the information current? Are there bad or missing links or old news? Find a date when the information was posted or updated.
- 6. Back Up Is there a list of works sited which references credible sources?
- 7. Kind of Site On what kind of site does the information appear? Personal Home Page? News or journalistic Site Commercial (.com) Education (.edu) Government (.gov) Organization (.org) Network (.net)
- 8. SNOPES Check Snopes.com to see if it is a hoax.
- 9. Reflection We researched how to find credible information on the internet. It was a lot of fun looking at Hoaxes but it was hard to tell if some of the things were true. We looked at a lot of sites telling us how to check for credibility and came up with this system to test. Check for Author, institution or organization, the writer’s bias, if the information is current, check the sources cited, and what kind of site you are looking at. Finally, we test things out on the site Snopes which gives us information on hoaxes, rumors, scams, and Urban Legends.
