Wilfred Owen Techniques
Wilfred Owens war poetry
Good morning/afternoon teacher and peers,
Wilfred Owen was born in 1893 in Oswestry (United Kingdom). He wanted to be a poet from the age
of nineteen although most of his famous work is that which he wrote in his years spent in the war
where he died in 1918.
The preface to Owens poetry read:
This book is not about heroes. English poetry is not yet fit to speak of them.
Nor is it about deeds, or lands, nor anything about glory, honour, might, majesty, dominion, or power,
except war.
Above all I am not concerned with Poetry.
My subject is war, and the pity of war.
The poetry is in the pity.
To help tell you how Owen uses poetic techniques to achieve the objective stated above i will provide

Figurative language, as with most poetry, is readily used in much of Owens work because it helps to
create tone and communicate emotion effectively. Let s take a look at the poem mental cases for a few
examples of figurative language. Metaphor, misery swelters surely we have perished.
Simile, bearing teeth that leer like skulls teeth wicked? And also the poem disabled where we see an
example of personification in the line that speaks of how the town used to swing so gay.
Symbolism when it tells of the disabled man wearing his ghastly suit of gray, the gray symbolises the
dullness and shadows that now hang over him.
We often see the use of oxymoron s and paradox when something is being contrasted within a poem
such as a line from the poem dulce et decorum est, gas! GAS! Quick boys! An ecstasy of fumbling
which is used to describe the controlled panic which quickly increases as the men fumble to put on
thier gas masks. A good example of a paradox also from this poem is the line that Owen writes the
devil, sick of sick this is a paradox because the devil is a personification of sin, this is just another way
he portrays how horrific war is.
Rhetorical features are used by Wilfred Owen as it heightens the effect of the language, to create a
more persuasive effect.
Repetition is often used weather this be to make the poem sound monotonous when read such

The Role Of Journalism And Its Impact On Society Essay
In a contemporary society, the role of journalism is a varied one that covers many different aspects of
people s lives. As more and more outlets spring up around the world, many more stories are able to be
covered by different outlets, and this means that journalism takes on a more and more important role
in a contemporary society. Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and
journalistic outlets are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. Journalism also
provides us with a way of finding out which of these stories are important and deserve our attention,
and which stories can be ignored. The important role of journalism can be well observed in the recent
coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in both New Zealand and around the
world. This is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the 800
million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. With worldwide coverage of
this deal, it is inevitable that different types of reporting occurs, and that different outlets will provide
different accounts. With so many different journalism outlets around the world and locally, many have
to have a way of standing out from the crowd. This means that some extremely different coverage of
very similar stories can occur. However it can also simply be down to different ownership, differing
political views, and different socio economic environments. Two outlets with

Chinoiserie s Influence On American Architecture
Chinoiserie arose as a movement in response to the strict restraints of the Baroque style. More
broadly, this public reaction is characterized as the Rococo style, which Louis introduced in his court
in France around 1750. The Rococo style played with the imagination; whimsy, asymmetry and high
contrast in both scale and color exemplify the art and architecture of the style. Chinoiserie grew out of
the Rococo style as European became fascinated with the Far East, specifically intrigued by Chinese
ceramics. The blue and white luster glaze pottery depicting imaginative accounts of Chinese life
became incredibly popular in the late 18th century. And, while Chinoiserie s influence on architecture
was present at Versailles as early as 1670, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientific exploration continues: modern plant houses have been added and improved upon every few
years and the herbarium, which contains over 300,000 plany specimens, is one of the largest in the
world. The Princess of Wales Conservatory (fig.), named for Princess Augusta, was built in 1987 with
state of the art technology. The conservatory has 10 computer controlled climactic zones under one
roof, improving upon the first glass house, yet paying homage to the original form and purpose. In
2006, a third version of an alpine house was developed, the Davis Alpine House (fig.), with an
advanced system to control temperature, ventilation, and moisture to simulate the environment of
being 2000 feet in the air. Engagement and education with the general public, particularly children, is
another priority of Kew Gardens today. In 2004, Climbers and Creepers , an interactive learning
environment encourages children to discover botany, ecology, animals, and the environment. Further,
in 2008, Marks Barfield architects, the masterminds behind the London Eye (fig), built the Treetop
Walkway (fig). The architectural firm, known for creating innovative forms to maximize visibility,
constructed the Treetop Walkway over the Arboretum to be level with the treetops. The rusted steel
pathway blends with the environment to provide a new perspective at looking at the gardens. The
actual design of the steel is based on the Fibonacci numerical sequence (fig.) engaging intellects and

Level 3 Health and Social Care, Unit 5 P2
Unit 5 P2 Explain what they are, their functions and where they are found. Then go into detail about
two organs, with their functions, what tissues they are made of and where they are found in the body.
Tissues: Tissues are groups of similar cells that have specific functions. In this piece of work I ll talk
about these types of cells: Epithelial Tissues: Epithelial are the lining of internal and external surfaces
and body cavities, including tubes/channels (ducts) carrying secretions from glands. Epithelial tissues
can be made of several layers of cells (called compound epithelia), or a single layer known as simple
epithelia. The lowest layer of cells is attached to the basement membrane for support and connection.

The matrix of a tissue can be secreted by the connective tissues within the body. The functions of
connective tissues are to transport materials around the body to give support to the weak areas to
protect and support the body. Body Organs: The body has different organs that work together and they
make up a system such as the Respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal
system and the nervous system. These are the main systems within the body and are made up of
individual organs that then work together. For instance, the respiratory system is made of the nose,
lungs, heart and this lets us breathe. Blood: Blood is a bodily fluid that transports oxygen and nutrients
to the cells within the body. Blood has plasma that lets the different types of blood travel round the
body. Plasma contains proteins that have different functions for the blood clotting, transporting and
defence organisms and osmotic organisations. The plasma carries the red blood cell which has a
elastic membrane so it can fit through the small capillaries within the body. Red blood cells can be
also known as erythrocytes they don t have a nucleus when they are matured which gives a bigger
space for oxygen, although as there is no nuclei the red blood cells can t divide so they only live for
around 120 days. Red blood cells gain their colour from haemoglobin, oxygenated blood which is
known as arterial blood which flows through the arteries coming from the heart and

The Woman Is Stalking The Narrator
The problem is the story the elevator is that the woman keeps stalking the narrator named Martin.
When Martin tries to tell his dad about what s going on with the woman. Martin s father doesn t
believe him. I know the woman was stalking Martin because the story says, She stood with her back to
the door, wheezing, staring directly at Martin. She had to be crazy. Why else would she stare at him
like that? This proves that the woman was stalking Martin because the story ended as the woman
spoke and said, Hello Martin, she said, and laughed and pushed the stop button on the elevator. Martin
got onto the elevator because he didn t believe in himself, and believed his father and got stuck in the

An Overview of Britain in the Early 20th Century Essay
An Overview of Britain in the Early 20th Century
During the early 20th century in Britain, lives for everyone changed dramatically. The population
levels increased. From 1901 1911 the population increased from 42 million to 45 million. This meant
there was an increase in birth and a decrease in death rates.
There were very distinct social divisions. At the top were the upper and upper middle classes. They
earned above £700 a year. They were only 3% of the population yet they earned most the country s
wages. They usually went to public school when young then went onto university. Most would then
join the army. Many went abroad during winter and the London house for the ball season in May.
They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The working class would get around £50 100 a year. They lived in very small terraced houses cramped
with lots of people. They worked around 10 hours a day from Monday to Friday and six and a half on
Saturday. They had no holidays and small innutritious meals which meant they died younger. The
children would go to work after school and stay in the factory most of their life.
The most popular jobs were domestic, agricultural and in the building trade. The women were the
lowest paid of them all and most worked in the domestic service. The Daily Mail was the cheapest
newspaper at ½ pence.
In those days, Britain was a parliamentary democracy but the House of Lords could block decisions
made by the House of Commons. The system was unfair in that only a few people could vote. By
1906, all men with households could vote but the women couldn t. There were two main parties, the
liberals and the Conservatives. They were mostly supported by richer people. The conservatives
believed in laissez faire, where they leave people to their own problems. The Conservatives believed
that they should leave the rich people to get on with making Britain richer.
The Liberals believed in freedom of the individual and that you had to work hard if you wanted to be
wealthy. This meant that the rich then looked down on the poor as they believed it was their own fault
that they were

False Memory And Eyewitness Testimony
A false memory is a fabricated or corrupt recollection of an event. Memories can be false in
inconsequential and considerable ways. An inconsequential way is thinking one s coat is hanging in
the closet when it is really on a chair in the dining room. A considerable way is when there is an
implication that one was sexually abused as a child. There are factors that include misinformation that
interfere with the formation of a new memory, causing recollection to be mistaken or entirely false.
False memories can have serious implications, such as the false identification of a suspect or false
recollection during police interrogations. In regards to eyewitness testimony, the length of time
between the incident and being interviewed about the event ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Eyewitness testimony is generally seen as reliable, but as of lately research has found psychological
factors that affect one s testimony. They are anxiety/stress, reconstructive memory, and leading
questions. A study was conducted on the impact of anxiety and life stress upon eyewitness testimony;
subjects completed self reports, an eyewitness task, and a self preoccupation scale to determine the
relationship. Results showed that anxiety and preoccupation limits the eyewitness s ability to perform;
a highly anxious individual may miss important cues that are task relevant (Seigel Loftus 1978). Other
cognitive processes like perception, imagination, and semantic memory influence reconstructive
memory the act of remembering. Bartlett s theory of reconstructive memory is understood that an
eyewitness testimony is influenced by what is learned or cultural norms. We store information in a
way that makes the most sense to us, organizing information into schemas, mental units of knowledge
that correspond to people, objects, or situations that are close to us (Wagoner 2013). When in a police
interrogation, leading questions can provide misinformation that causes the witness to question
everything they saw and whether or not they are saying the right thing. A study was conducted on a
number of subjects that saw a complex and fast moving event. They immediately after were asked
questions that suggested information that was necessarily correct due to the wording of the question

How does a cart change its motion when you push and pull on it? You might think that the harder you
push on a cart, the faster it goes. Is the cart s velocity related to the force you apply? Or does the force
just change the velocity? Also, what does the mass of the cart have to do with how the motion
changes? We know that it takes a much harder push to get a heavy cart moving than a lighter one.
A Force Sensor and an Accelerometer will let you measure the force on a cart simultaneously with the
cart s acceleration. The total mass of the cart is easy to vary by adding masses. Using these tools, you
can determine how the net force on the cart, its mass, and its acceleration are related. This relationship

The Effects Of Preeclampsia And How It Can Negatively...
Preeclampsia is a potentially deadly condition that typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy,
in either the late 2nd or 3rd trimesters. It is most simply defined as a condition where a pregnant
woman develops protein in their urine, due to organ damage (most often the kidneys) and high blood
pressure during late pregnancy. Thankfully, the condition isn t too common, as it presently effects in
anywhere from 3 to 7% of all pregnancies, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Read
to below to learn more about preeclampsia and how it can negatively impact a pregnancy:
Typical Symptoms of Preeclampsia:
Women who have preeclampsia often do not realize they are sick, as they don t feel all that bad. Some
of the symptoms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Causes of Preeclampsia:
Preeclampsia s exact cause is presently unknown. However, the following factors are thought be
increase the likelihood of a woman experiencing the condition:
Genetically predisposed or having a family history of the condition, or a previous pregnancy that
involved preeclampsia.
Being obese.
Having a multiples pregnancy, which of course means having more than one baby at a time, such as
having twins.
Being a first pregnancy.
The woman being older than 35 years of age.
Having a history of kidney disease, high blood pressure or diabetes.
A person s diet.
Issues with blood vessels.
The presence of autoimmune disorders.
Diagnosing Preeclampsia:
During pregnancy, a woman s doctor should always be on the lookout for all the physical symptoms of
preeclampsia listed above, such as weight gain, swelling and high blood pressure. In addition, if a
doctor suspects a problem, they should order blood tests as a way to measure the protein in a woman s
urine, and to discover a low platelet count or high liver enzymes. When preeclampsia is discovered,
doctors will do an ultrasound, non stress test and other tests to decide if the baby should be delivered
right away. Obviously, the more severe the condition, the more likely it is for a doctor to suggest
delivery.
Treatment For Preeclampsia:
As mentioned above, preeclampsia can be fatal for both the mother and the baby if left untreated.
Unfortunately, the only true cure is delivery of the baby. Ideally,

Sin Of Achan Essay
The sin of today s worshipping church is burning incense and genuflecting to it s own preferences,
nostalgic interests, and religious conditioning to the detriment of the broad based mission and unity of
the Body of Christ in the world. Paul E Wells The OEC had committed the sin of Achan (Joshua 7), an
Israelite of the clan of Zerah who had participated in the assault on Jericho. After the battle, the Lord
instructed Joshua to burn everything in the city that belonged to the people of Jericho except for the
silver and gold. Joshua then brought these things to the House of the Lord. Joshua, obeyed God in
imposing a herem on Jericho, which Achan subsequently violated. He stole a beautiful garment and
hid gold and silver under his personal tent. After discovering Achan s thievery, Joshua brought the
matter before the twelve tribes of Israel. God declared (7:12) that Israel could not move forward, or
have the Lord s help, until Israel judged Achan for his grievous sin. Achan eventually confessed; but it
was too late. His selfishness and covetousness had already weakened Israel. Thirty six men had died
in the Israeli military defeat at the hands of Ali. Having been found guilty by a tribunal for hoarding
and burying a piece of Jericho under his own tent and for stealing something that rightly belonged to

The Deterrent Effect
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be
too eager to deal out death in judgement. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring). The killing of
someone for a crime has been around for many years. As far back as Ancient Law of China and the
Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, the death penalty has been established as a punishment for
crimes. One of the top argument in 1970 s, was general deterrence (Radelet Borg 44). In addition
around 1955 1975 people favored by a small 5% then by 1975 1995 it rose to 78% favored and 18%
opposed (Goo). As you can see general deterrence had a great effect and that s why a rose to 78%

The argument is a popular among politicians and the public in response to the escalating fear of
violence. They believe that with the death penalty gives a great strength to police officers because
potential offenders fear capital punishment which de escalates violence. Another factor many believe
is that criminals will be more compliant to cooperate because they will try to get a lesser punishment
which in turns makes the death penalty deter further crimes that could be committed. Many believe
that since the death penalty deters crime, it is a great tool for law enforcement as a

Parking Area Controversy
The parking area should be spacious
The parking area is a peting place where the vehicle stops and is abandoned by its owner for a moment
or longer. For example when we are going to college then our vehicle must be parked first and then
after college we can take it back. Strange is not it, when we go to college while bringing the vehicle
into the classroom? Therefore, every place or building must have a parking space.
In this day and age, almost everyone has a vehicle. Of the number of existing vehicles prove that the
parking area should be wide especially campus environment. Why should parking area be wide? First,
so that lecturers, employees, campus guests, and students can park their vehicles in the parking lot that

The Pros And Cons Of College Education
This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought
where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me.
However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of
college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they
tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher
education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most
likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather
deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to
higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of
reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to
do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both
pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I
found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros
and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be
rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report.
The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which
was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous
surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey
noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher
education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads
said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their
child to go to college. Adam also noted that within the survey

The The Wreck of the Medusa Essay
In the moonlight s ghostly glow,
I waken in a dream.
Once more upon the raft I stand,
Upon the raging sea.
In my ears the moans and screams
Of the dying ring,
Somewhere in the darkness
The siren softly sings...
The architects of our doom
Around their tables sit,
And in their thrones of power,
Condemn those they ve cast adrift.
Echoes down the city street,
Their Harpies laughter rings.
Waiting for the curtain call,
Oblivious in the wings.
Excerpt from the lyrics, The Wake of the Medusa , By The Pogues
The Raft of the Medusa , by Theodore Gericault, 1819, was inspired by the catastrophic wreck of the
French frigate, The Medusa, on July 2, 1816, off the west coast of Africa, during a voyage to Senagal.

A raft was constructed from the masts and crossbeams of The Medusa, to carry the crew, soldiers and
some of the passengers. Due to there only being six lifeboats aboard, the dignitaries, their families and
other higher ranking officials took possession of them, leaving approximately 150 members for the
raft. Seventeen crewmen decided, for whatever reason, to remain on The Medusa.
Those in the lifeboats quickly decided that towing the raft was impractical, and Governor Schmaltz,
not Captain De Chaumereys, was the first to drop the tow line to the raft, leaving it to the cruelty of
the open sea.
On the raft, the situation quickly deteriorated, and panic consumed those aboard. Fighting broke out,
provisions were destroyed and the Raft of the Medusa s infamous voyage commenced.
The first night 20 men were killed, or committed suicide, in a struggle to defeat terror, fear and dread.
The undisciplined soldiers quickly staged a mutiny, eventually committed cannibalism and other
atrocities, and 13 days later, 15 of the original 150 that went into the ocean survived to be rescued.
The following material is from eye witness accounts of two of The Medusa s survivors, the ship s
Surgeon, Henri Savigny and ship s Geographer, Alexander Correard. Much of the testimony of the two
survivors was released to an anti Bourbon newspaper, resulting in a scandal and political cover up, and
the court martial of Captain De Chaumereys.

The Creationism Question Essay
In a historical context, creationism versus the theory of evolution has always been a hotly contested
subject, one of the major breakthroughs being when Darwin publicized his theory of evolution. When
Darwin published his theory of evolution in 1859, his book was considered a major technological
breakthrough at that time. The seeming proof that a God didn t exist created a catalyst, where
creationism was replaced with an almost atheism, because the existence of evolution counteracted
society s belief in God. In the article The Evolution Controversy: Who s Fighting with Whom about

Pharmacy At Rainer s Pharmacy
As a pharmacy technician at Rainer s Pharmacy, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. I have learned what types
of people visit a pharmacy. At the pharmacy, we deliver medication and groceries within two hours of
the pharmacy. The pharmacy is made up of three sections: retail, hospice, and the laboratory. I work in
the retail and hospice section; I have met the diabetic hero, the storytellers, and the narc eater. The
diabetic hero is the scariest. From in the pharmacy you can hear him pull into the parking lot;his car is
rusted from the back left wheel to the front right wheel. The car sounds like it has not been inspected
for years. It clanks and bangs and leaves a trail of smoke behind it. He puts the car in park then comes

There is two types within the pharmacy:the retail and the hospice. The retail narc eater are mean and
usually have an egotistic attitude. She always has a scowl on her face. Her look is distinct she has on
dirty sweatpants and a t shirt with holes in the armpit or around the neck. She comes in screaming you
shorted me pills, where the fuck is the rest of my medicine That is very unlikely, because each c2 and
c3 narcotics get placed in a bubble sheet with the set amount of pills counted out for the dosage. If she
is not complaining about not having enough medicine, she wants to fill the prescription too early and
she doesn t understand why the pharmacy can not fill it. Her insurance will not cover it unless she
follows the correct dosage. She tries to pay for the prescription without insurance but the price can be
a few hundred and she responds with, you can shove the money up your ass. The hospice narc eaters
are worse than the retail. These patients are terminally ill and they still want to get that high or they
want to sell their narcotics. For example, patient Sara Lee gets daily narcotics with only one day s
worth, because her children will take her medicine and sell it. This causes that no one else can sign the
manifest saying that the patient received the medication. This can only help so much. The pharmacy
gets multiple calls saying that patient s children is selling the medication right off the front porch.

Vaccinations In The Twentieth Century
When one is given a vaccine, the body s immune system fights the disease or virus causing the body
to become immune to the disease. Before vaccines, the only way to become immune to a disease was
too simply contract the disease and hopefully live with no serious side effects or passing on the
potentially deadly illness or dangers in a wide spread epidemic. Vaccinations have been saving lives
for over 200 years now. Below is a chart showing the successful impact vaccinations have had in the
United States. Looking at this chart, the impact of vaccines in the Twentieth century have almost
completely eradicated diseases like measles, diphtheria, and small pox. According to the CDC,
vaccinations have prevented more than 21 million hospitalizations and 732,000 deaths among children
born in the last 20 years. Vaccines have the ability to provide artificially acquired immunity and are
easier plus a less risky way to become immune to disease rather than attempting to heal after ... Show

Analyses showed that routine childhood immunization among members of the 2009 US birth cohort
will prevent ∼42 000 early deaths and 20 million cases of disease, with net savings of $13.5 billion in
direct costs and $68.8 billion in total societal costs, respectively. (http://www.skepticalraptor.com)The
direct and societal benefit cost ratios for routine childhood vaccination with these nine vaccines were
3.0 and 10.1 (cite). The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program that
provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to
pay. One of the biggest supporters of providing cheaper vaccines was Jones Salk, who created the
polio vaccine. Salk chose to never patent the vaccine, and he also never made any money from his
discovery. He wanted to see the vaccine as widely distributed as possible; thus, making it easier for
anyone to receive the

Nt1330 Unit 4 Assignment
This was by far the most challenging course that I have encountered while obtaining my Master s
Degree in Educational Technology from UCMO. That is not a negative comment as this course has
actually impacted me professionally more than any other course I ve taken to date. This course has
taken more time to complete the assignments, more of my attention to detail, and more of my
creativity. The last point was the best part about this course. I consider myself to be fairly creative and
this course definitely allowed me to do that while bringing my somewhat odd personality to a
professional forum. For this I am grateful. Let s get to the good stuff, shall we? Three assignments in
particular really forced me to address the ISTE standards. I will address each assignment individually

A digital audio file is definitely a digital tool and having it available for students to either stream
online or download makes for easy accessibility for student use. The audio assignment displayed
digital citizenship under ISTE standard 5.b, which calls for the legal and ethical use of online
materials available for students. Having created the audio file myself, there is definitely no copyright
infringement. The second assignment I m going to discuss was the digital library assignment. This
assignment focused on teaching, learning and assessments under ISTE standard 2.a, which undertook
the implementation of digital learning experiences while addressing content standards. The digital
library is most definitely a digital experience for students as they can only get to it by way of the
internet. Within the digital library, there are sixteen different content standards focused on, ranging
from the difference between the inner and outer planets to the difference between series and parallel

My Strength As A Writer
Writing is the primary basis upon which one s work, intellectual and learning is judge. I have some
experiences in writing in form of assignments, expressing my emotions, poems and lyrics. I believe
that writing stays forever, it is permanent. One s written work stays whether it is in the form of
literature, stories or history.
Writing not only make thinking visible but also redefine the ideas and thoughts. It improves
communication skills, creative thinking and creativity. Writing is all about to play with words.
One of my strength as a writer is that I come up with a story on the fly. Whenever I write I have a
story in my mind. To me it doesn t matter if the story isn t well built I manage to put words down on

Chaos In The Crucible
Order Leads to Chaos: The Irony of the Witch Trials In 17th century Massachusetts the Puritan
government was a theocracy. They did this to restore order and have a Holy Community. In the
Crucible, by Arthur Miller, people are being accused of witch craft and the whole town goes crazy.
There are a series of trials and multiple people are killed. In the Crucible, in an attempt to keep order
and maintain a holy community greater chaos emerges. In the Crucible, the people of Salem are
determined to keep order and to maintain a holy community. For example, Paris says to Abbigail,
Abigail, I have fought here three ling years to bend these stiff necked people to me, and now, just now
when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, Elizabeth tells John, The Deputy Governor promise hangin if they ll not confess, John.
The town s gone wild, I think. She speak of Abigail, and I thought she were a saint, to hear her.
Abigail brings the other girls into the court, and where she walks the crowd will part like the sea from
Israel. And folks are brought before them, and if they scream and howl and fall to the floor the person
s clapped in the jail for bewitchin them, (Miller 52 53). If people don t confess then they get killed and
if a teenage girl faints in front of them then they are found guilty of witch craft. This displays the
opposite image of a peaceful and godly community. People are lying and being killed for working for
the devil even though both those acts are sins. They are so afraid of the devil yet they are committing
his acts. When Mary Warren was being questioned about lying, Danforth asked her, Do you not know
that God damns all liars? (Miller 101). Even though he is naming God he really means that they will
damn her. He is declaring the government s right to do as they believe God would do. But even though
they believes that those who lie should be condemned he is not condemning the real liars. The real
liars are being treated like saints while the honest and good people are being killed. It shows that their
society has become the opposite of what it was

Puppy Mills Have Been Notorious For Keeping The Puppy...
Puppy mills have been notorious for keeping the puppy trade industry alive and as big as it is today.
With thousands of puppy mills, both known and under the radar, they provide easy access and cheap
puppies to sell at pet stores at inflated prices. While they do keep the business booming and keep pure
breeds that may specialize in important roles, they continue to put countless numbers of dogs through
terrifying pain. To stop the agonizing torture the lovable pups go through, stricter rules must be
applied to these puppy mills, a new license regulation must be used, regular inspections, and
awareness of alternative options must be made. With already set regulations on puppy mills, people
say there is no reason to have any additions on the rules. There is a kennel license, which restricts how
many dogs someone can have depending on how much square footage of land he or she owns. This
regulates the amount of dogs that can be held for breeding and to keep the area clean and safe enough
for all the dogs involved. People are required to go through a moderately long process to achieve their
license, to ensure that these dogs will be okay. Puppy mills are also known for keeping pure breed
numbers up, such as beloved German shepherds, poodles, Welsh Pembroke corgis, and Labradors.
Having mixed breeds can be healthier of course but as Sofia Jeppsson had said in her article Purebred
Dogs and Canine Wellbeing, However, in the long run such a strategy would severely deplete the

Session Beer
Summer is officially in swing and there s no better time to enjoy an ice cold brew out on the water, at
the beach, or on your front porch as the sun s going down. But when the weather is just too nice to
pass up that second or third drink, craft beer aficionados are in for a long day and that s a good thing!
The popularity of session beers, beers with full flavor and hop but less alcohol content, is on the rise
and Oskar Blues Brewing Company has come out with what they call the most crushable beer yet.
Released for national distribution back in February, the Pinner Throwback IPA has an ABV (alcohol
by volume) of just 4.9% and 35 IBU (international bittering units).
The term session beers actually dates back to the World War I era when British legislation limited pub
hours to one lunchtime and one dinner time session. During this time rationing put a limit on the
amount of alcohol used in brewing, creating lower ABV levels in the beers consumed during these
sessions. According to NPR s Doug Tribou it has also been argued that sessions just referred to longer
stays at the pub. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nordstrom Organizational Culture
In the 1980 s business experts began to realize the root to organizational success or failure is through
its culture. The culture of an organization is the belief that guides each employee in knowing what to
do and what not to do and it also affect the public perception of the organization s brand. Therefore
culture is the shared social knowledge within an organization regarding the rules, norms and values
(Colquitt, Lepine, Wesson, 2012). Although, no two cultures are alike, there are components and
characteristics that help business experts to define an organization s culture.
Edgar Schein offers direct and indirect mechanisms that helps decipher the organization s culture:

A ritual generally contributes to the process of an organization. However, it does have symbolic role
which personifies the values of the organization. There are several rites and rituals that helps cultivate
Nordstrom s market and service culture.
Ex. 1: Recognizing and celebrating top sellers (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Ex. 2: Organizational leaders engage with employees by holding prep rallies (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Communication
The MNE reinforces their service culture by emphasizing excellent customer service in their employee
handbook a 5 ½ x 7 ½ card that states; Our number one goal is to provide outstanding customer
service, and for this they have only one rule: Use good judgment in all situations (Nordstrom, Inc,
2017). The true testament of Nordstrom s philosophy is best illustrated by its organizational chart that
is readily displayed in the employees break room. This chart also depicts another of Nordstrom s
philosophy, it empowers frontline employees by placing them at the top of the organizational pyramid.
This suggest that frontline employees have the freedom to create their own career paths and be
creative when it comes to providing excellent customer service.

Climate Change Is The Global Climate System
Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According to
the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of climate
which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the atmosphere
and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods. (Allen,
Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910 by the average of 0.9
C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures have increased by 0.8 C
whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people living in 1900 s. (BOM
CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded that we may have, in fact,
reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes that this man made climate
change has caused havoc on the earth s atmosphere and the most striking of all the components is the
arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet
that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of
the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt around the world.
All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the
outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer sea
ice has shrunk by an

Myths around Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
DUI s have been on the rise in the past few years, therefore there have been many myths on how to
not obtain a DUI or a DWI. New York became the pioneer state in which, they made to first drunk
driving laws in 1910, followed shortly after California then the other forty eight states followed. These
DUI laws stated that a driver could not operate a vehicle while under the influence, although
intoxication was not defined by legislature at this period of time. Then in the 1930 s committees
wanted to make the roads safer. So The American Medical Association started a committee that
studied the most common issues that lead to accidents. Also the National Safety Council created a
study that determined intoxication, they reached a conclusion that a Blood Alcohol Content above
0.15 was intoxicated and anything under a person was sober, this became the first legal limit for BAC
in 1938. Although as time progressed the laws became stricter, this was due to various groups that
petitioned against drunk driving. The pressure from these organizations led to changes, such as raising
the legal drinking age to twenty one years of age, which was required for all states, yet drunk driving
laws was not required by all police departments at this time. Then the legal limit was lowered to 0.10
from 0.15, then once lowered again to our legal limit we have to which is 0.08. The first myth to bust
is the various amounts of ways someone can fool a Breathalyzer. The Breathalyzer is a small handheld

Character Analysis Of Charlie Gordon In Daniel Keyes...
Charlie Gordon knows he is not very intelligent and that the only thing he is good at is his job. In
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, Charlie, a 37 year old man, has an I.Q. of 68 which is a result
of a mental disorder. Later on he gets an opportunity from Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur to get an A.I.
surgery which would triple his I.Q. Charlie takes them up on the offer. After the surgery, Charlie gets
smarter, and a lot people get scared after knowing him as not being intelligent. He even gets fired from
his job because everyone felt uncomfortable and inferior around him. They signed a petition for him to
not work there anymore. Charlie didn t know what to do since it s all he s ever done. It s great that he
got more intelligent, but Charlie s life was way better before the surgery. He was happier, he was more
likeable, and he got along with others better. Charlie Gordon was often cheerful before he had the A.I.

surgery. Other viewers may say that more people liked Charlie after the surgery and I argue that it is
not true. Although he might have been happy after the surgery, he had many other emotions than he
did have before the surgery. For example before the surgery he only felt happiness, excitement, and
motivation, but after the surgery he had sadness, depression, lonely, and he could also feel ashamed.
The quote Now I m more alone than ever before... (Keyes 235). This shows he had depression. People
often think that since Charlie was smarter and could accomplish more after the surgery that he was
more liked previously, but most people didn t like him and were uncomfortable with him. For
example, he even lost his job because people didn t want him there because they were uncomfortable
with him. Dr. Nemur appears to be uncomfortable around me. Sometimes when I try to talk to him, he
just looks at me strangely and turns away (Keyes 236). This is why Charlie was better off before the

He wanted to be a poet from the age of nineteen although most of his famous work is that which he wrote in his years spent in the war where he died in 1918. The preface to Owens poetry read: This book is not about heroes. English poetry is not yet fit to speak of them. Nor is it about deeds, or lands, nor anything about glory, honour, might, majesty, dominion, or power, except war. Above all I am not concerned with Poetry. My subject is war, and the pity of war. Figurative language, as with most poetry, is readily used in much of Owens work because it helps to create tone and communicate emotion effectively. Let s take a look at the poem mental cases for a few examples of figurative language. Metaphor, misery swelters surely we have perished. Simile, bearing teeth that leer like skulls teeth wicked? And also the poem disabled where we see an example of personification in the line that speaks of how the town used to swing so gay. Symbolism when it tells of the disabled man wearing his ghastly suit of gray, the gray symbolises the dullness and shadows that now hang over him. We often see the use of oxymoron s and paradox when something is being contrasted within a poem such as a line from the poem dulce et decorum est, gas! GAS! Quick boys! An ecstasy of fumbling which is used to describe the controlled panic which quickly increases as the men fumble to put on thier gas masks. A good example of a paradox also from this poem is the line that Owen writes the devil, sick of sick this is a paradox because the devil is a personification of sin, this is just another way he portrays how horrific war is. Rhetorical features are used by Wilfred Owen as it heightens the effect of the language, to create a more persuasive effect. Repetition is often used weather this be to make the poem sound monotonous when read such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Journalism And Its Impact On Society Essay In a contemporary society, the role of journalism is a varied one that covers many different aspects of people s lives. As more and more outlets spring up around the world, many more stories are able to be covered by different outlets, and this means that journalism takes on a more and more important role in a contemporary society. Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and journalistic outlets are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. Journalism also provides us with a way of finding out which of these stories are important and deserve our attention, and which stories can be ignored. The important role of journalism can be well observed in the recent coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in both New Zealand and around the world. This is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the 800 million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. With worldwide coverage of this deal, it is inevitable that different types of reporting occurs, and that different outlets will provide different accounts. With so many different journalism outlets around the world and locally, many have to have a way of standing out from the crowd. This means that some extremely different coverage of very similar stories can occur. However it can also simply be down to different ownership, differing political views, and different socio economic environments. Two outlets with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chinoiserie s Influence On American Architecture Chinoiserie arose as a movement in response to the strict restraints of the Baroque style. More broadly, this public reaction is characterized as the Rococo style, which Louis introduced in his court in France around 1750. The Rococo style played with the imagination; whimsy, asymmetry and high contrast in both scale and color exemplify the art and architecture of the style. Chinoiserie grew out of the Rococo style as European became fascinated with the Far East, specifically intrigued by Chinese ceramics. The blue and white luster glaze pottery depicting imaginative accounts of Chinese life became incredibly popular in the late 18th century. The Pros And Cons Of College Education This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me. However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report. The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their child to go to college. Seventeen crewmen decided, for whatever reason, to remain on The Medusa. Those in the lifeboats quickly decided that towing the raft was impractical, and Governor Schmaltz, not Captain De Chaumereys, was the first to drop the tow line to the raft, leaving it to the cruelty of the open sea. On the raft, the situation quickly deteriorated, and panic consumed those aboard. Fighting broke out, provisions were destroyed and the Raft of the Medusa s infamous voyage commenced. And folks are brought before them, and if they scream and howl and fall to the floor the person s clapped in the jail for bewitchin them, (Miller 52 53). If people don t confess then they get killed and if a teenage girl faints in front of them then they are found guilty of witch craft. This displays the opposite image of a peaceful and godly community. People are lying and being killed for working for the devil even though both those acts are sins. They are so afraid of the devil yet they are committing his acts. When Mary Warren was being questioned about lying, Danforth asked her, Do you not know that God damns all liars? (Miller 101). Even though he is naming God he really means that they will damn her. He is declaring the government s right to do as they believe God would do. But even though they believes that those who lie should be condemned he is not condemning the real liars. The real liars are being treated like saints while the honest and good people are being killed. It shows that their society has become the opposite of what it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Puppy Mills Have Been Notorious For Keeping The Puppy... Puppy mills have been notorious for keeping the puppy trade industry alive and as big as it is today. With thousands of puppy mills, both known and under the radar, they provide easy access and cheap puppies to sell at pet stores at inflated prices. While they do keep the business booming and keep pure breeds that may specialize in important roles, they continue to put countless numbers of dogs through terrifying pain. To stop the agonizing torture the lovable pups go through, stricter rules must be applied to these puppy mills, a new license regulation must be used, regular inspections, and awareness of alternative options must be made. With already set regulations on puppy mills, people say there is no reason to have any additions on the rules. There is a kennel license, which restricts how many dogs someone can have depending on how much square footage of land he or she owns. This regulates the amount of dogs that can be held for breeding and to keep the area clean and safe enough for all the dogs involved. People are required to go through a moderately long process to achieve their license, to ensure that these dogs will be okay. Puppy mills are also known for keeping pure breed numbers up, such as beloved German shepherds, poodles, Welsh Pembroke corgis, and Labradors. Having mixed breeds can be healthier of course but as Sofia Jeppsson had said in her article Purebred Dogs and Canine Wellbeing, However, in the long run such a strategy would severely deplete the ... • 29. Session Beer Summer is officially in swing and there s no better time to enjoy an ice cold brew out on the water, at the beach, or on your front porch as the sun s going down. But when the weather is just too nice to pass up that second or third drink, craft beer aficionados are in for a long day and that s a good thing! The popularity of session beers, beers with full flavor and hop but less alcohol content, is on the rise and Oskar Blues Brewing Company has come out with what they call the most crushable beer yet. Released for national distribution back in February, the Pinner Throwback IPA has an ABV (alcohol by volume) of just 4.9% and 35 IBU (international bittering units). The term session beers actually dates back to the World War I era when British legislation limited pub hours to one lunchtime and one dinner time session. During this time rationing put a limit on the amount of alcohol used in brewing, creating lower ABV levels in the beers consumed during these sessions. According to NPR s Doug Tribou it has also been argued that sessions just referred to longer stays at the pub. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 31. Climate Change Is The Global Climate System Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods. (Allen, Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910 by the average of 0.9 C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures have increased by 0.8 C whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people living in 1900 s. (BOM CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded that we may have, in fact, reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes that this man made climate change has caused havoc on the earth s atmosphere and the most striking of all the components is the arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt around the world. All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer sea ice has shrunk by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Myths around Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol DUI s have been on the rise in the past few years, therefore there have been many myths on how to not obtain a DUI or a DWI. New York became the pioneer state in which, they made to first drunk driving laws in 1910, followed shortly after California then the other forty eight states followed. These DUI laws stated that a driver could not operate a vehicle while under the influence, although intoxication was not defined by legislature at this period of time. Then in the 1930 s committees wanted to make the roads safer. So The American Medical Association started a committee that studied the most common issues that lead to accidents. Also the National Safety Council created a study that determined intoxication, they reached a conclusion that a Blood Alcohol Content above 0.15 was intoxicated and anything under a person was sober, this became the first legal limit for BAC in 1938. Although as time progressed the laws became stricter, this was due to various groups that petitioned against drunk driving. The pressure from these organizations led to changes, such as raising the legal drinking age to twenty one years of age, which was required for all states, yet drunk driving laws was not required by all police departments at this time. Then the legal limit was lowered to 0.10 from 0.15, then once lowered again to our legal limit we have to which is 0.08.
