- 1. San-Lou tells us how she went from doing gigs at pubs to headlining for massive festivals and opening for some of the country’s most popular artists. San-Lou is a new and upcoming artist who is said to be the new Adele. San is an indie rock singer who is from Manchester, she was signed by the same record label as Florence and the machine and has had many more offers for a contract. We caught up with San for an exclusive interview on her rise to fame. San how do you feel about becoming a global superstar? Im so shocked, I never expected to get this kind of a reaction from me singing a few songs. I love singing and for people to love me singing it’s just amazing! When did you first start singing? Well Ive always had a passion singing even when I was very little I used to love singing in front of my family when they came round. It was only in my teens that I started to take singing seriously and people use to compliment me on my voice when I sung at local pubs around where I live. Can you play any other instruments? I can play the acoustic guitar, I learnt how to play that when I was 14 and I use it all the time now when i do gigs at smaller venues and I’m also in the middle of learning how to play the piano. Has your new found fame changed you in any way or changed the people around you? erm..its definitely made me more cautious when making friends because there are people out there who will use you for who you are, and for your money and there are a lot of fake people. I have a lot of close friends and I don’t believe for a second that any of them would try to use me, but i’m pretty grounded and I have my family and friends to thank for that I am very blessed. Are you a Twitter user yet? yeah I am, I have been for a while now I think it’s great for keeping in touch with fans its much more personal and you can reply to them. So when does your album come out? My album comes out on the 26th April and I have my single out now which is also on itunes, its doing really well so far and is at number 4 on the uk charts. Was it hard to get to where you are now? it was yes, I did so many gigs at local pubs and posted videos on Youtube hoping that someone would see them and think wow shes good, and people did ive had so many offers about music contracts and im very grateful, but it wasnt easy to get where I am now there were some days that i felt very low and just thought that its never going to happen but I had my family and friends that had a lot of faith in me and they kept me going especially my mum I think sometimes she believes in me more than I do myself.
- 2. So what made you choose the label that you’re with now? Well, im with Island Records and its a pretty big label, its signed some huge artists and they’re all amazing artists, the thing is I got lots of offers but when i heard that Island Records wanted to sign me the other offers kind of faded and I just new which one I wanted to go with. Are the rumours about you and Ed Sheeran true, are you really a couple now? Rumours? thats all they are, me and Ed are just good friends, he’s a really nice guy and hes so down to earth, we share a similar story so its easy to talk to him about things you know, we both come from similar backgrounds and we both worked hard to get to where we are today. It’s fun hanging out with him we just have a laugh. Can we expect a duet in the future then? hmm..possibly, I don’t want to give away to much but it has been mentioned before, me and Ed are good friends so its definitely a possibility and I would love to, it’d be good fun. Do you have a major inspiration for your music? I definitely have a lot of artists that I respect hugely and would love to be as big as them some day but I think it’s important that you inspire yourself especially when you do something as creative as music. What your favourite part of your job? Erm its probably making music you know putting all your thoughts and feelings into a song and having people like the song you wrote and understand what you’re talking about in it, its a great feeling when your sat in the car on the way to somewhere listening to your local radio station and your song gets requested, it makes you so happy to know that people actually like the song and want to here it. How much support do you get from your fans? My fans are amazing! an artist is nothing without their fans and a good fanbase. They’re the best fans in the world and with out them id still be singing in a local pub on a friday night, thats probably why im so addicted to twitter because I can keep in touch with them all and thank them personally for all their support, I’m so so grateful.
