Guatemala is a Central American country located south of Mexico. Its capital and largest city is Guatemala City. Guatemala has diverse geography that includes mountains, highlands, and low-lying rainforests along the coast. The climate is tropical, with warm temperatures year-round. The Maya civilization originally inhabited Guatemala, building great temples and developing a writing system and calendar. Today, Guatemala has a mixed population consisting of indigenous Maya peoples and descendants of Spanish colonists.
