Editor's Notes

  • #2: Comments apart from the Customer Presentation Script are placed in these characters <>. Good <morning / afternoon>. I am excited to share with you Xerox’s latest breakthrough in printing for the office. This offering is designed with you in mind. It is the most ambitious product undertaken in recent years. This product breaks the mold for color MPFs in several aspects. High performance Low environmental impact Lowest color page price in the industry and breakthrough ease of use This new color MFP is sure to be sought-after regardless of the fact that our economic climate issues force us all to consider our activities carefully, in fact, this is just the product to have in these times. Let me introduce you to the new, Xerox ColorQube <Proceed to the next slide.>
  • #3: These might be some common customer situations that you may experience. The ……. Employee/End user frustrated with having to “think” first about whether to print a document in color or black and white IT Manager who’s tired of worrying about controlling color printing costs Business Manager who wants to print everything in color, everyday, because she knows communicating in color has greater impact Facilities Manager is tasked to “do something” to support his company’s sustainability initiatives Administrator hassled by handling and storing consumables for laser devices Manager that prints a lot of e-mail with little color (like URL’s) and dislikes to pay more than a penny for that page If you recognize any of these people in your business, ColorQube is for you. <Proceed to the next slide.>
  • #4: The next generation of Solid Ink has been created from the best of Xerox’s office technology. As we just discussed, Solid Ink is a proven technology that has been featured for years in our best selling color printers. This technology continues to be improved and uses reliable modules from our best selling monochrome MFPs. The new office controller platform combines WorkCentre capabilities and Phaser ease of use providing you an unprecedented everyday office color printing solution. <Proceed to the next slide.>
  • #5: The mission of solid ink is to make color as easy as black and white. Solid Ink is an extremely successful technology that Xerox has been continuously improving for the past 20 years. We’ve sold almost 1 million Solid Ink units worldwide, and each year, 6 billion pages are printed off Xerox Solid Ink technology. Why is this? Solid Ink overcomes all key barriers to color printing. Solid ink technology provides terrific color that’s naturally vibrant and glossy, yet is affordable. The low cost of the ink sticks provides Solid Ink with a low overall total cost of ownership to the customer. The Phaser 8860 utilizing Solid Ink technology was the first printer on the market to provide color prints at the same price of a black and white print. Solid Ink technology is also extremely productive, easy to use, reliable, and puts customers on a path to a greener office. You don’t see black and white televisions being sold anymore. When you print a document off your computer, there’s a very good chance that document has color in it on the computer—so why shouldn’t there be color when that document is transferred onto paper? The ColorQube 9200 series changes the paradigm of color printing with its low color costs, ease of use and productivity so users no longer have to think about whether they are going to print a document in color or not. What you see on your screen is what you will get on your paper. Whether it is a presentation to a board of directors, or a copy of your email to take home, the ColorQube 9200 series allows the guilt-free use of color for all “everyday” documents.
  • #6: Let’s discuss the first leg of the value proposition. Solid ink has always provided great looking color. For the first time, this naturally vibrant and consistent color is being made available on an office workgroup platform—at a great price.
  • #7: <Have Image Quality samples ready to share with the prospective customer. The ones noted below are in the Solid Ink Briefcase Demonstration Kit.> -Show great image quality (Wild Spaces - center spread) -Show prints on a variety of media (Southern Oregon Wine Walk and Hiro Menu ) <Points for Presenter Key reason we selected Solid Ink years ago was ability to get vibrant prints on plain paper. The technology is superior to water-based inks. Advantages of laser printing (results on printed page) + simplicity of ink jet Encourages the use of recycled and lighter weight papers without sacrificing print quality.> <Proceed to the next slide.>
  • #8: The world is transitioning to color. More and more, people are understanding the advantages of printing and copying in color. Color sells, it grabs people’s attention, and it creates a positive image. So why are so many people still printing in black and white? Various studies show that the cost of color is still the biggest barrier to printing in color. Color products cost more than black and white devices. Color pages cost more than black and white pages. Companies are also afraid that if they install a color device, that costs will skyrocket out of control as employees start printing personal photos on company devices. The next tier of obstacles to using color was lack of speed, employee misuse and reliability and volume. We have listened to our customers and the ColorQube 9200 series offers game changing technology that solves page cost, speed, employee misuse and reliability issues.
  • #9: The Hybrid Color Plan categorizes typical office color documents by the amount of color on each page. Xerox research found that most color documents printed in a typical office environment have little to moderate amounts of color on a page. Approximately 10% of typical color pages printed fall into the Useful color category and 65% fall into the Everyday color category. Only 25% of color documents in the typical office environment fall into the Expressive color category meaning that the average workgroup can save on 75% of their color prints with the Hybrid Color Plan 3 Tier plan. Please note that actual distribution will vary by customer location and doesn’t include Black-only pages. Hybrid Color Plans record Useful Color pages as a Black/White click
  • #10: Flexible color billing is a new Xerox billing strategy in which customers are charged a lower rate when printing or copying documents with low amounts of color coverage.  Documents that have large amounts of color area coverage will continue to be charged at the current color machine rate AND all black images will continue to be billed at the lowest rate PLUS a small amount of color will be allowed on meter 1 and charged at a black & white page price! This strategy is all about enabling our customers to save money on their color output without sacrificing quality AND enabling you another way to bring value to customers. They simply pay for the color that’s actually used in typical office documents, unlike some competitors our customers don’t have to make a choice between draft and high quality modes. Easy and transparent to implement. No need to choose between Draft or High Quality modes, so no extra driver selections. Just hit print and start saving money on your color output. The equipment does it all. The Phaser 8860 printer and MFP will automatically analyze the color used in any given document – print or copy. It does this by analyzing the document to determine the area coverage by color for each page. The key is that customers will never pay more than they pay today for color or black (mono) pages. Now they pay less for some color documents These sample documents demonstrate that how the new meters record different documents.** final coverage thresholds still under development Only our solid ink technology allows us to offer this breakthrough pricing.
  • #11: The ColorQube 9200 series offers unique price plans are based on the actual color used on the page. This means that customers don’t have to pay full price for small amounts of color on a page such as a URL or a company logo. They don’t need to print in a draft mode with lower print quality to get lower prices, Hybrid Color Plan delivers full quality output and lower prices Customers don’t have to choose a particular print mode to get the lower prices, just select “Print” and the ColorQube automatically measures how many black and color pixels are used to produce each printed page. Individual pages are tallied on 3 separate meters in the machine based on how many color pixels are on the particular page. The only factor that determines which meter is incremented by a given printed page is the number of color pixels used in printing that page. Customers only pay for the amount of color they use on each page independent of paper size and print quality mode selected. The faster (lower resolution) print quality modes generally use fewer color pixels to print a given image and therefore the same image may occasionally be registered on a lower (less expensive) color level meter. When scaling an image to print on a larger paper size or placing multiple pages onto a larger paper size (such as a booklet), more color pixels are used. This could occasionally register the page on a higher (more expensive) color level meter.
  • #12: Solid Ink technology is extremely easy to use. Solid Ink sticks are a cartridge-free technology. The ink is a true consumable—simply drop the ink into the device—there are no cartridges to recycle or dispose of. Ink loading is a simple process with easy drop-in loading. It’s a no-mess process and each color has a unique shape to eliminate mix ups. You can load up to 6 sticks of each color into each chute, and each stick has an ISO yield of over 9,250 prints. Because Solid Ink provides you with the unique ability to top off while the device is running, you can have about 55,500 prints of each color at all times. There is also only 1 Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) on the ColorQube—a long life Cleaning Unit which gets replaced once or twice a year. It is very easy to replace. It has a handle on it so it carries like a small tackle box, and is light enough to be carried by a small child. Comparable Xerographic devices have many different components that need to be constantly replaced including imaging units, fusers, waste toner bottles, etc. Having only 1 CRU minimizes the amount of intervention and storage space required for the device.
  • #13: Not only is ink loading simple to perform, the entire device is extremely easy to use. Embedded help videos offer quick troubleshooting assistance right at the UI, and an illuminated paper path makes occasional access less intimidating.
  • #14: The speeds of the ColorQube are variable (situational) between 38 and 85 PPM depending on what you want to do. Now imagine a scenario where your supervisor wants to meet with you in 10 minutes and you need documents for this impromptu meeting in a hurry… in the past you did not have the time to print in color. With the ColorQube you can get great quality output (at speeds up to 85 PPM) just in time for that meeting! <Note: Flexible print speeds are only available in the PostScript Driver. It is not available in PCL or copy.> <Proceed to the next slide.>
  • #15: Productivity is one of Xerox’s great strengths, and as you would expect from a Xerox workgroup device, ColorQube 9200 is extremely productive. You would expect a workgroup class product like the ColorQube 9200 series to provide fast printing and copying speeds, but beyond just speeds and feeds, Xerox products offer real world productivity. All manufacturers have products that claim to reach 40 or 50 ppm. However, rated speed doesn’t always equal real world productivity. According to Gartner Research, not all multifunction products function equally well. Many of the specifications may appear similar, but the actual performance of machines varies widely. Speed is important, but the ability to multitask can be just as important. Multitasking operation means multiple users can simultaneously perform different tasks – scan, copy, print, transmit faxes and manage the queue – a helpful feature in maximizing business efficiency. Xerox devices have traditionally performed extremely well in real world situations conducted by third party industry analysts, with its lower devices often outperforming competitive devices with higher rated speeds. Xerox devices have several unique features that increase productivity—the ColorQube 9200 is no exception. In internal tests of 15 typical office documents, the ColorQube finished 2-3 minutes before other comparable devices—enough time to pick up a cup of coffee!
  • #16: The third leg of the value proposition…..not only can the ColorQube 9200 series help users save money and is easy to use, it will put workgroups on a path to a greener office. The device offers printing and copying that offers significant environmental benefits.
  • #17: Solid Ink sticks are cartridge free, and therefore a true consumable. Once you load an ink stick into the device, there are no cartridges to recycle or dispose of. Cartridge free technology and only 1 customer replaceable unit, as opposed to the multiple cartridges and drums required on comparable xerographic devices, results in 90% less packaging waste versus a comparable xerographic device. Note: The model in this picture is our Solid Ink Sustainability Manager, and she is a normal size person at 5’6”.
  • #18: The ColorQube puts you on the path to a greener workplace. Cartridge-free solid ink sticks avoid the excessive packaging of toner cartridges.  That means fewer resources are used and less energy is invested from manufacturing to end of life. The results?  90% less waste in your office and a smaller carbon footprint across the product life cycle (Based on a Xerox conducted and peer-reviewed lifecycle assessment comparing a solid ink device to a comparable color laser device) Because Solid Ink produces brilliant color on recycled and other environmentally preferable paper — media that other printing technologies have trouble with — the ColorQube 9200 series enables you to make the switch to recycled paper to help meet your company’s sustainability initiatives without sacrificing quality. The device also comes standard with 2-sided printing and copying allowing you to cut your paper usage in half. Or, go paperless with powerful scanning features to manage all your office documents electronically. The ColorQube 9200 series achieves the new 2009 ENERGY STAR, and its Intelligent Ready feature minimizes energy use without making you wait for a print. It learns your workgroup’s usage patterns and moves to low power mode when you’re less likely to need it and restores to print ready level when your office is busy.
  • #19: Solid ink stick packaging is made from post consumer waste and, where recycling options are available for the cardboard box and plastic tray, 100% can be recycled locally. There’s also only one customer replaceable unit compared to the multiple imaging units required on a xerographic device—a long life Cleaning Unit with an average yield of 200,000 prints. Naturally, it can be recycled through the Xerox Greenworld Alliance. Cyan, Magenta, & Yellow boxes contain 37,000 pages worth of ink Black boxes contain 40,000 pages worth of ink
  • #20: Sustainability is not just a nice-to-do at Xerox. Xerox views it as a way of doing business, not as a cost of doing business. In fact, Xerox focused on environmental performance and sustainability long before it was popular to do so. In the 1980’s Xerox was the first company to introduce power-down features on its equipment to save energy, and the first to make two-sided printing a standard on its systems, significantly reducing paper use. In the 1990’s, Xerox pioneered remanufacturing for office equipment and helped shape the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program for imaging equipment. Xerox continues to use innovation and leadership to drive environmental performance through its value chain: In 2003, Xerox joined the US EPA Climate leaders program and pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions from worldwide operations 25% by 2012. In 2007, Xerox introduced High Yield Business Paper—the first mechanical fiber paper for digital printing—which uses half the trees of conventional paper.

  • #22: The Xerox ColorQube is a fully-featured workgroup MFP. The product will come standard with a 100 sheet DADF and a 3,200 sheet paper capacity that can be increased to 7,200 pages with an External High Capacity Feeder. One of the first things you’ll notice about it is the common hardware modules that ColorQube shares with other Xerox MFPs. All the key inputs such as the DADF and HCF, and output options are the same as that of the 5600. ColorQube will offer an Offset Catch Tray, Office Finisher, High Volume Finisher, HVF w/ Booklet maker (opt. C/Z fold), and optional post process inserter (for the HVF and HVF w/ BM). The Xerox ColorQube will utilize the next generation of the Xerox sMart Controller so it will support all the latest and greatest Xerox technology and offer a similar behavior and user experience customers now expect from a Xerox MFP. These features including standard HDD overwrite, Windows digitally signed drivers, EIP, Text Searchable PDF, and full system Common Criteria Certification. One of the unique productivity features of ColorQube versus laser products is that ColorQube offers the user a choice of speeds for each model. Each ColorQube has 4 different print quality settings. These different settings offer users the unique ability to gain extra print productivity when lower print resolution and less saturated images are what the situation calls for. Though ColorQube comes with default speeds of up to 50 ppm mono for all models and up to 38/45/50 ppm color depending on model, all have the ability to print up to 85 ppm when the situation calls for needing printouts in a hurry! <Proceed to the next slide.>
