IDIOMS
Goal for today:
What is an Idiom? Why and
when do we use it?
Taking Idioms literally:

Links to the Norwegian language:
Come up with different ways of expressing
the meaning of these words without using
only that word (work in pairs).
 Død
 Sulten
 Trøtt
Definition:
 Idioms are phrases or words that we use to express
ourselves creatively.
 They cannot be translated directly to another
language because they are often linked up to culture.
 In many ways they are like speaking in riddles –
riddles that are easy to understand for anyone
speaking that language as a first language, but
difficult for learners to get the hang of.
 Did you notice ”get the hang of”? That’s an idiom!
What does it mean?
