Introduction of GxAlert in Uganda
GeneXpert data
• Xpert data is very critical for the following reasons:
• Monitoring performance of the machines
• Monitoring usage of cartridges
• Ensuring all patients detected are put on treatment more so
MDR & HIV patients
• Capturing TB indicators
• For planning purposes
Xpert data collection
• Without GxAlert Xpert data was collected
through:
• Telephone calls – weekly
• SMS
• E-mail
• Monthly support Supervision
• Visits from the center – very expensive
Xpert data collection challenges
• Not many Xpert users are proficient in extracting data
• Extracting data, sending it to the center is added workload – not much
welcome
• Collection of data monthly is not timely to ensure all patients are treated
• Most of the Xpert sites lack new lab registers which capture Xpert data.
• Challenges with aggregating the data and sending it to the programme
and treatment sites
• Challenges with communication to the patients
How GxAlert Works
DEVICES
Devices/Health Facilities Connected to GxAlert Which includes
Genexpert 22 sites which clearly the shows reporting status in
month, days, minutes and seconds real time reporting.
Dashboard
Status of Device showing Total number tests done with Green is positive, Black is rif Resistant,
Blue is RIF indeterminate, Yellow are the invalids and Red are Errors
Inventory
Track usage of cartridges: Inventory of Murchison Bay Luzira
Benefits of GxAlert
• Regular receipt of weekly data
• 87% of 22 sites in Kampala
Vs
• 26% of 71 sites without GX Alert
Next steps
• Extend to the rest of the country
• Automatically send information to patients
and clinicians
• Uninterrupted internet connection
THANK YOU
