Would you like to earn FREE Books for your School?
For every 10 purchased you get to choose a FREE Book!
Dear Head Teacher / PTFA / Literacy Coordinator
We would like to introduce ourselves: we are "The Children's Bookshelf", the £2 Book Shop, and we host
"Pop Up" Book Events where we bring our Book Shop to you.
We are a family run business which we started in September 2016, and our feet haven't touched the
ground since!
The Children's Bookshelf would like to encourage all Children to find their love of reading and we aim to do
this by supplying Schools, Nurseries, parents, family members and friends with brand new, current, and
amazing books, all at an unbelievable £2 each.
We have looked at, and attended, various types of events and we now have a formula that works well for
us, and delivers great results for the School where we let you choose FREE books in return for hosting the
"Pop Up" Event.
The Children's Bookshelf thoroughly enjoy seeing the children when they come along to our events, armed
with their £2.00 and making their own choice of book and coming up to pay for it - something that strikes us
as being complete empowerment, and to be encouraged by us all.
We love the sheer excitement on the faces of not only the children, but their parents too!
We love the mayhem, the noise, the rush to find THAT book amongst the hundreds on display.
At one of the events we hosted, an astute little boy, only 7 years old asked “How can you do these books
for only £2:00 when they are £7, or £8:00 in the shops?” He will go far!
At another event…… a 10 year old boy, surrounded by classmates and their brand of excited
mayhem, was standing still, transfixed by what he was reading in the book he was holding,
impervious to it all…… THAT is to us, what this initiative is all about.
We hope that you, too, find the atmosphere exciting and inspiring as we help to promote literacy and the
love of books amongst the next generation. To that end could we ask, if you are interested in The
Children's Bookshelf attending your School for one of our "Pop Up" Book Events, please do not delay in
contacting us as we are already filling up our diary for the next few months – and even next year!
So....How does it work?
We give you the tools to advertise successfully and promote your establishment’s event. We then come
along and sell as many books as we can, with you amassing 1 free book for every 10 that we sell.
Around 2000 books ranging from colourful picture books to age 9+ chapter books will be brought with us.
We have Key Stages 1 & 2 reading books, including Biff & Chip, Project X, Ladybird readers, Song Birds,
and Usborne, plus many others too, so we require quite a lot of space for the books to be displayed clearly,
and to be fully appreciated, a hall or large classroom is best.
Tables need to be clean and, ideally, set up (though we can arrange them) before we arrive as this all
saves time, and we'd require, depending upon the size of School and tables, around 12-14 tables.
The idea is to set up from around 1pm, just after lunch as it takes about an hour to do. The children then
come armed with their £2 to choose their books class by class. The School would need to send
information home in the children's book bags to let the parents know that we will be at School and for them
to pop £2 in their book bags (we have included something for you to print for this), and also to let the
parents know that they can come in after the School bell to buy more books themselves.
Remember the more books sold, the more FREE books the School will earn!
We can stay at School for about an hour after the bell to give the parents enough time to browse and
purchase some more books of their choosing.
Social media advertising - we will create an event on our Facebook page for the School and this can be
shared on to PTFA/PTA pages to help you to generate interest and anticipation for the event.
We will provide you with Posters to print and display, and letters for book bags.
** Lord Scudamore did all of the above and achieved a record of 98 FREE books **
We are receiving loads of lovely comments from parents and teachers, and here is one that we just have to
share.....
" You are a great ambassador for books children will love. The reading skills of Hereford children should go up a
thousand fold as you have given parents an opportunity and affordability to help their children to learn to read
and enjoy reading with their parents. You have worked so hard but it is really worth every moment when a child
sits down with one of your books and either looks at the pictures or tries to read it themselves independently. I
wish you more success in the future. Well done. "
