AN INTRODUCTION AND
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF
OUR SOLUTIONS
INNOVATIVE SEMANTIC
APPLICATIONS
Founded in Verona, Italy, in 2000, Creactives S.p.A. specialises in semantic
and ontology-based software solutions. We empower businesses to smartly
interpret their data from a wide range of sources and languages, transforming
it into suitable information that can be classified, standardised, and organised.
Our technology is unique worldwide (Gartner’s Cool Vendor 2012) and has
been developed by Creactives starting from the results of researchers of the
Computational Semantic Department at the University of Verona.
The core innovation was the capability to reproduce the human reasoning
to understand free texts like the ones filled in structured, semi-structured,
unstructured and textual fields of corporate IT systems. The technology is
devoted to delivering a range of applications where the textual data contain
valuable information for: spend analysis, material master data management,
e-procurement catalogues.
Creactives has developed a comprehensive and powerful software suite to
optimise the procurement process and material master data governance. More
than one decade of ongoing improvements offers your business leading web-
based solutions, which can be integrated into existing process landscapes
quickly and easily.
The Creactives team is comprised of more than 50 specialists in Italy, Spain,
Germany and Austria. We count among our clients international leaders such
as Tetra Pak, Lenzing, Pirelli, Cortefiel, Gestamp, Galp, Konica Minolta, Buzzi
Unicem - Dyckerhoff, and UniCredit Group.
About Creactives
Introduction to Creactives Semantic Applications
Buzzi Unicem-Dyckerhoff is a leading in-
ternational producer of cement and ready-
mixed concrete. Dyckerhoff’s head office
in Wiesbaden, Germany has been opera-
ting strongly from the same location for
150 years. They were acquired by the Buz-
zi Unicem Group in 2004.
First launching in Italy, Creactives’ project
with Buzzi Unicem-Dyckerhoff has now
been extended to Germany and the U.S.
They involved three differten ERPs, two
of Oracle and one of SAP. Spend coming
from different sources is classified auto-
matically in a customised taxonomy based
on the Creactives standard.
Buzzi Unicem’s head purchasing depart-
ment in Italy puts Creactives to work,
managing international synergies and
handling price benchmarking internally
– making them more effective in supplier
negotiation.
A customised Creactives system displays
parallel orders, receipts, invoices and ex-
penses. Inspecting an asset taxonomy
crossed with a spending taxonomy gives
Buzzi Unicem granular visibility of ex-
penses per production machine in each
plant. Creactives-TSV also allows them to
spot compliance errors in invoices.

The Creactives spend analysis software Creactives-TSV enables you to quickly and ea-
sily identify consumption patterns, maverick spend, and policy compliance ratios; to
define savings strategies and monitor initiatives - optimising your procurement process.
Semantic technology delivers outstanding enterprise-wide spend visibility through enri-
ched output data and improved data accuracy, as never before achieved. TSV consoli-
dates, cleanses and classifies your multilingual expenditure data (e.g. orders, receipts,
invoices), consulting not only your distributed ERPs, but also combining and enriching
your data with other sources. This provides unparalleled total insight, and the power to
act efficiently on your consumption model. TSV gives your spend analysis the unique
capability to analyse data using multiple taxonomy structures: be it internantional stan-
dards such as UNSPSC, eCI@ss and more, or your own customised taxonomies.

Tetra Pak is the world’s leading food pro-
cessing and packaging solutions compa-
ny. Tetra Pak decided in 2014 to improve
their MRO-related material master data
governance. The following challenges
were top on their list:
Creactives-TAM was selected to reach the
following strategic goals:
SUCCESS STORY
TECHNICAL ATTRIBUTE MANAGEMENT (TAM)
Semantic granular classification
Technical attribute extraction
Duplicate identification
Smart creation of materials
Enriched workflow
Your Benefits Your Achievements
Duplicate identification and removal
Improved inventory rotation
Part numbers reduced and reused
Improved material master data quality
Reduced RFQ preparation time
Proper master data governance requires a software solution aimed at increasing the reu-
se of existing materials and avoiding duplicates. The material master data management
software Creactives-TAM supports your business needs, analysing your data efficiently
and effectively using the richness of natural language. Materials are classified in a hi-
erarchical category tree independently of the original language or coding used in their
description. Specific technical characteristics (attributes) are assigned to each category.
When attributes are included in descriptions, they are detected and extracted. Identical
materials as well as similar ones are identified as potential duplicates.
Thanks to TAM Smart Material Creation with its integrated similarity search, unneces-
sarily encoding new master data can be avoided. When recording a new set of master
data, contents are automatically checked against existing data sets in all languages. As
opposed to conventional keyword-based search applications, TAM’s semantic search
function locates information using natural language. Search text is processed semanti-
cally and matched with items in other languages as well as historical data, then classified
appropriately in a category sharing its technical attributes.
Mastering MRO management to
solve:
Different coding criteria
Generic category confusion
Language barriers
Reducing free text orders
Assuring corporate policy compliance
Tackling inventory reduction
Establishing a cleansing system for
material master data
Yearly spend of over 2B€
More than 800,000 POs
Master with over 200K active
items
15 different languages
Define a single set of material master
data with normalised descriptions, co-
vering each language used at Tetra Pak
Optimise material group classification,
organisation-wide
Enable creating new materials from a
single entry point

Enrich item descriptions
Avoid duplicate creation
Increase inventory rotation
Gestamp, founded in 1997, is an inter-
national group dedicated to the design,
development and manufacture of metal
automotive components, with 130 indus-
trial plants in 25 countries worldwide, and
upwards of 37,000 employees. Managing
more than 400 buyers, 3,300 orders and
80 plants with their own purchasing

MG PROMPT
Improved accuracy assigning
material groups
Solid reporting reliability
Accelerated requisition / purchasing
processes
Confident budget management
Enhanced granular classification
Your Benefits Your Achievements
Quick and effective implementation of a
new global taxonomy
An expanded number of categories, used
more effectively
Creactives-MG Prompt is a tool that analyses the description of a new material or ser-
vice, automatically suggesting the most suitable material group. MG Prompt helps users
in real time, from directly within the SAP interface. The correct material group is inferred
by analysing historical attribution patterns as well as semantically analysing the descrip-
tion provided, possibly enhanced by custom policy-based criteria. If these suggestions
are not enough, the user can browse or filter the hierarchy to choose a different material
group: this event is logged and used as implicit feedback, automatically improving future
suggestions. Good reporting requires a detailed material group hierarchy. Conventional
tools tend to increase errors as the MG hierarchy expands, because manually assigning
material groups is a complex task: average misattribution in ERPs is over 30%, which
compromises many corporate processes.

systems, the Gestamp Group generates a
massive quantity of data every day. Em-
ployees, moreover, work in 15 different lan-
guages and with 6 ERP systems. Putting
MG Prompt to work, Gestamp aims to eli-
minate different coding criteria, language
barriers, and unnecessary free text orders,
while focussing on inventory reduction.
Konica Minolta has more than 40,000 em-
ployees working in 150 countries world-
wide. In 1873, Konica Minolta established
itself in the camera and photographic film
industry. Today their focus has expanded
to deliver diverse technologies and inno-
vations including office equipment, optical
systems for industrial use, and diagnostic
imaging systems. In 2011, Konica Minol-
ta decided to restructure their purchasing
process, applying a semantic solution
from Creactives. Using 3SP - The Seman-
tic Self Service Procurement Catalogue,
they tackled the challenge of unifying their
extensive data, spanning 15 ERP systems
in 26 countries and 19 languages.
SUCCESS STORY
SEMANTIC SELF SERVICE PROCUREMENT (3SP)

A 3SP master catalogue, supplier-neutral and independent of material numbers, can be
generated from the consumption models created by your spend analysis. This master
catalogue forms the basis of the comprehensive catalogue solution delivered by Creac-
tives-3SP, the Semantic Self-Service Procurement Catalogue. Data in the master cata-
logue can be conveniently linked to information from supplier catalogues. Each product
search in the procurement system is checked against the master catalogue. Creactives’
semantic real-time search suggests same or similar items to the user that have previ-
ously been ordered by others – meaning that the correct product is purchased. This
simplifies the selection process for the user, as well as greatly reducing time spent during
selection and ordering. This results in sustainably changing procurement habits, and
significantly decreases the generation of free text requirements.
