Introduction
to the World
  of Science
“Nature and Nature’s laws
     lay hid in night
 God said, let Newton be!
    And all was light.

     -Alexander Pope
Have you ever wondered
why the sky is blue and the
 sunset red?
How and why things work?
How do you hear and see?
Why is life so different
 today than four centuries
 ago?
What is Science?
 The word science comes from
  the Latin "scientia," meaning
  knowledge
 "knowledge attained through
  study or practice” (According to
  Webster's New Collegiate
  Dictionary)
Science refers to a system
 of acquiring knowledge…

Why?
Science iS…
      a systematized body of
knowledge that is based on facts
gathered through
observations, experiences and
experiments in order to formulate a
verifiable conclusion or law that
serves as basis of technology for the
benefit of man and his environment.
Fields of science are commonly
classified along two major lines:
 Natural sciences
-the study of the natural world

 Socialsciences
    -the systematic study of human
behavior and society
Applied Science
    - the application of the
theoretical sciences, like those in
social and natural sciences.

What is Biological
    science?
the scientific study of life
or living things
What is Physical
         science?
It
  deals with the study of
 nonliving things.
What is Physics?
 It
deals with the understanding of the
 fundamental laws of nature.
 The branch of science concerned with
the properties of matter and energy and
the relationships between them. It is
 based on mathematics and traditionally
 includes mechanics, optics, electricity
 and magnetism, acoustics, and heat.
It is a way of thinking.
it makeS you aSk “why?”
 all the time.
Why does Physics can not be
  considered as a natural
       philosophy?

because it employs the
scientific method
What is Scientific
         Method?
Itis the application of a logical
 process of reasoning to arrive
at a certain law or principle
 that is consistent with
 experimental results.
