Editor's Notes

  • #6: Includes Internet, browse the world wide web, and email Many different ISPs. On website, search is over 170 ISPs for Toronto area. You are probably only familiar with a handful of companies. More mainstream because they are accessible, affordable and of course marketed to you. - Bell and Rogers may have more restrictions than you require, ie. Limit bandwidth (amount of data that can be transferred by connection)
  • #8: Various services available through many different companies
  • #9: Modem – used to send digital data over a phone line Example: Bell will give you a dial-up access phone number to connect to the internet
  • #11: Example - Some computer games will not work because the transfer rate is too slow.
  • #12: SO THE USER IS ABLE TO VIEW OR DOWNLOAD ON THE INTERNET LARGER FILES
  • #13: Still using your phone line, using the copper wiring, but doesn’t tie up the line. Because on a higher frequency than voice. Modems are usually rented from the company, some may have buy option See bell pamphlet, read through various offerings
  • #16: Look at Rogers pamphlet, read 4 different plans
  • #18: Cable vs. DSL speeds are up for debate. Studies show it is also dependant on the company you are using and how they are connected to the Internet.
  • #19: Wireless, see Bell pamphlet, only available in Canada SATELLITE ACCESS IS USED BY LARGER COMPANIES. And for remote users who require high-speed access EXAMPLE: CANADA’S TELEVISION STATIONS
  • #20: Personal Digital Assistant Remote User, attaches a satellite receptor dish, similar to satellite tv to their house/business
