UPDATE
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
•Equipment changes for the Family Advocates &
Home Visitors
• Smaller/lighter computers they can carry into our
family’s homes
• Improved portable Internet access to use while
traveling
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
•Equipment changes for Head Teachers
• Replaced the netbooks with laptops
• Monitors and keyboards are no longer needed
which frees up desk space
• Laptops can be used in the classrooms now
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
• This Summer we put into service 80 new computers
• 50 Laptops for FA/HV and office staff
• 30 Desktops for classrooms and office staff
• We are working to get equipment on a replacement
schedule and cycle replacing computers every 5 to
6 years

•Upgraded all the iPads
• centralized the iPad management
• We now push updates and new apps from the
Central Office
• Placed all iPads in durable cases
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
•We are in the process of upgrading our wireless
network
• Managed from the Central Office
• Faster Internet access
• Will support all our devices at the same time
• Larger coverage area, we will be able to use iPads in
all areas of the classroom

•We set up Remind.com accounts for all classrooms
to use as a communication tool
• Send a one-way message to every parent in a classroom
at same time
• Messages is received as a text, e-mail or push
notification
• Allows for two-way communication with parents if
teacher permits
• Keeps phone numbers private, parents never see our
phone numbers

• Miscellaneous Items
• We upgraded many of the connections between the Central
Office and our Centers to improve speed and
communications
• The IT department has been delivering and setting up the
classroom equipment and this will be completed before the
start of the school year
• Improved security for COPA
• Have begun using computer imaging to reduce the time it
takes to repair or setup a computer. Time has been reduced
from about 6 hours down to 1 hour
• Begun upgrading our computers to Windows 10

•Why Windows 10?
• Speed – Faster than Windows 7 or Windows 8
• Security – Better protection and security
• Mainstream support for Windows 7 stopped in
January of last year

•A few things about Windows 10 to be aware of
• No video player – if you need to play video please
let us know and we can install a video player on the
computer
• Picture viewer – New Photo viewer does not allow
for multiply pictures to be printed on the same
page. There are instructions on the Intranet site on
how to do this.

• Continued improvements for iPads
• A unified version of Microsoft Office
• A storage area for every department, center and
classroom to place documents
• Improvements in security, due to increased external
threats
• Passwords improvements and frequency of changing
passwords
• Upgraded security systems
• Improved encryption of our data
• Improved methods of distributing security updates to our

• Ways you can help our systems perform well
• While we have improved and increased the capacity of our
networks, we still need for you to keep your personal
devices off the private CORS networks. We need the network
to be available for our devices for security and performance
reasons.
• Never share or give out your password
• Review Policy 45 (Communications Policy)
• Post large documents, like pictures, PowerPoints and other
attachments to the Share Drive instead of sending out
hundreds of copies as an e-mail attachment. All these
copies take up space and use bandwidth. We will post
instructions on how to create a link to the document and
place the link in an e-mail to share with others
