- 1. John 15:1-3 ‘I am the true vine, and My Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. www.networkbible.org
- 2. John 15:4-5 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. - 7. Be declaring Himself the true vine Jesus stands in CONTRAST to Israel. Jesus is our source of LIFE. In the Old Testament ISRAEL is compared to God’s vineyard, a vine of God’s planting.
- 8. Identity in Christianity is RECEIVED; all other religions identity is ACHIEVED. (Timothy Keller) It is the life in the vine that PRODUCES fruit through the branches. Our IDENTITY should come from Him.
- 9. Beware of reducing Christianity to simply BELIEVING the right things apart from living in RIGHT relationship to Jesus. Fruit is that which brings the Father GLORY. The true vine reveals He is our source of life so we must ABIDE in Him.
- 10. Many believers wonder why they don’t make more progress. The reasons is often this…the “abide in Me” is not MAINTAINED. You are chosen not for privilege, but for the PURPOSE of bearing fruit. Remain/Abide in Jesus goes BEYOND attending church and a 10 minute daily devotion.
