To Whom It May Concern at C.W. Post:
I am writing this letter of appeal to C.W. Post regarding my financial aid package.
Currently, I have been offered a $4,000 scholarship per semester of my freshman year.
While this is generous, my family has financial commitments that do not allow them to
fully support their expected family contribution, and as such, I am requesting a larger
grant for the upcoming year.
My mother, Jane Doe, works full time at Harlem Hospital as a nurse, and my
father, Jonathan Doe, works full time as a janitor at Brook Island Pediatric Center in
Brooklyn. My parents send back a large portion of their salary to Jamaica, where I was
born, to support our family who still lives there, in particular both my grandmothers, one
of whom is ill, my brother, sister, nieces and nephews.
In addition, my mother is going back to college in the fall to pursue her bachelor’s
degree in nursing in Brooklyn, which is another expense that will not be fully covered by
financial aid.
I ranked third in my graduating class of over 200 seniors, and have received
various scholarship offers from Becker College and Western Connecticut State
University. The scholarship grants from each college was over $10,000, and while these
packages are attractive, I still would most like to be an undergraduate student at C.W.
Post in the fall of 2011.
If any consideration can be made to allow for an enhancement of funds for my
educational scholarship during my time at C.W. Post, I would be very grateful and would
work as hard as possible to maintain a high grade point average and not let you regret this
decision. I will most likely not be able to attend C.W. Post in the fall if I am unable to
secure additional funds because paying all of the loans with all of the other financial
obligations my parents already have to their colleges and family members they support
back home would be difficult to impossible.
Thank you for your consideration,
James Doe
