Case Study - LVN TO RN
TRANSITION
•  Being used in 4 classes throughout the C6
•  6 week course
•  Current book costs over $80 per student
•  Estimated number of students - 120

•  Development team broke the text down into
     8 working modules
•    Included basic skills and all learning
     objectives for the course
•    Worked with Creative Commons to
     determine appropriate materials to meet the
     CC-BY requirement
•    Wrote over half the materials from scratch,
     pulling key concepts and components from
     other work when necessary

•  Came to the event with work started
•  Completed 80% of the book at the event
•  Finished the book shortly after the event
•  Began formatting & editing process of book
•  Book began being used Jan 7, 2013

Work Voices – current project
•  Developed in partnership with a cohort of colleges and
   adult schools in Silicon Valley.

•  Interview series with former ESL students, now
   employed in vocational areas that offer possible
   career paths for immigrants.

•  Starting in the health sector e.g. dental assistant,
   radiologist, medical student…

•  Other employment sectors will be jobs in green tech,
   in business and technology companies.

  Work Voices modules will be tested in ESL classrooms and
  reviewed after student and instructor feedback.

  • 23. Case Study - LVN TO RN TRANSITION •  Being used in 4 classes throughout the C6 •  6 week course •  Current book costs over $80 per student •  Estimated number of students - 120

Case Study - LVN TO RN TRANSITION •  Development team broke the text down into 8 working modules •  Included basic skills and all learning objectives for the course •  Worked with Creative Commons to determine appropriate materials to meet the CC-BY requirement •  Wrote over half the materials from scratch, pulling key concepts and components from other work when necessary

Work Voices – current project •  Developed in partnership with a cohort of colleges and adult schools in Silicon Valley. •  Interview series with former ESL students, now employed in vocational areas that offer possible career paths for immigrants. •  Starting in the health sector e.g. dental assistant, radiologist, medical student… •  Other employment sectors will be jobs in green tech, in business and technology companies. Work Voices modules will be tested in ESL classrooms and reviewed after student and instructor feedback.
