JMILUG Introduction - 2007

Saleem Ansari

1) The Linux Users Group at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi, India has an active Yahoo group and a website that is under construction. 2) The group was inaugurated in July 2005 by members of the India Linux Users Group Delhi Chapter and has held regular weekly or biweekly meetings since then covering topics like Linux installation, graphics and media programs. 3) The group has participated in two large open source conferences in Delhi - FreeDel in 2005 and 2006 and LinuxAsia in 2006 to learn about new technologies and connect with the open source community.

since then? ● had regular weekly or fortnightly meets ● lectures – linux installation/trouble shooting – linux as a development platform for students – cutting edge technologies – Qt, GCC Toolkit, Servers – fun: media players for linux – MPlayer, XMMS, Xine, Totem etc. – Graphic Design – GIMP, Blender3D
two significant achievements ● visited FreeDel'05 at PHDCCI, New Delhi – around 30 members as visitors and a few as volunteers – website:http://freedel.in , http://freedel.org – next in the row is FreeDel'06 on 16th and 17th Sept'06 and JNU, New Delhi ● visited LinuxAsia'06 at IHC, New Delhi – got in touch with latest of Open Source in the World- wide Industry
