Mary showed her love and gratitude for Jesus by pouring expensive perfume on his feet. Judas criticized this as a waste, claiming the perfume could have been sold to help the poor, but he was actually a thief who planned to betray Jesus. Jesus defended Mary and commended her gift, seeing beyond outward appearances to people's true motives. While Mary gave her best out of love, Judas's gift was a sham to hide his plan to betray Jesus.
