The Jaipur Rugs Foundation (JRF) was established in 2004 to work with artisans in rural India to enhance their weaving skills and entrepreneurship abilities. JRF operates through two main verticals - entrepreneurship development which focuses on skill development and livelihood support, and social development which addresses health, education, and financial inclusion needs. Major activities include hand-knotted and tufted rug weaving, wool processing, and training programs in entrepreneurship, leadership, and social development. The organization's mission is to promote artisans' socio-economic well-being through providing work opportunities and its vision is creating a just and equitable society for all.

- 1. The Story of Jaipur Rugs Foundation
- 2. also known as NKC is one of India’s pioneers in social entrepreneurship and currently serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of Jaipur Rugs group. Nand Kishore Chaudhary
- 3. In 2004, Jaipur Rugs Foundation was established to work with artisans to enhance their artisanal skills and design sense, as well as to inculcate spirit of entrepreneurship.
- 4. JRF was established under the Rajasthan Public Trust Act. Overall work mandate of JRF is to reach out to remote rural areas and establish bonds with village communities, enabling them to start weaving not just rugs but also their own lives.

Mission The mission of JRF is to serve as a social innovator promoting the cause of artisans by providing them with decent work opportunities and thus leading them towards their socio- economic well-being. Entrepreneurship Development Entrepreneurship development vertical focuses on the economic well- being of the artisans and their communities through skill development and livelihood support Social Development Social development vertical focuses on their social well-being through interventions, awareness generation and linkages. Financial inclusion through support services such as opening bank accounts, joint camps with other NGOs, m-Commerce (M-PESA) and other initiatives. Two Verticals Two intertwined verticals:
- 12. Trustees Nand Kishore Chaudhary The founder-trustee of JRF, NKC is synonymous with simplicity yet profound ingenuity towards life and spirituality. Navratan Saraf A humble person who in his 10-year entrepreneurial association with the carpet industry he has been a major factor in organizing about 10,000 women artisans. Kantu Bhai More than 2,000 looms have started operations in the Valsad, Nousari, Dang and Surat in Gujurat as a result of his efforts.

Why Rug Weaving? • Rug weaving carries significance in poverty alleviation and skill development as it provides livelihood opportunities to illiterate and poor people (especially women) in remote rural locations. • Rug making can employ different categories of differently abled populace to acquire artisanal skills in various processes in rug value chain. JRF is now working on including such populace in its interventions.
