Gareth Smith and his wife Jenny Lee created the title sequence for the film Juno by traveling to Vancouver while the film was being shot to photograph locations and elements. They used a green screen and treadmill to film Ellen Page's character Juno walking for the sequence. Developing the idea for the titles before filming allowed the directors to request a shot of Juno walking behind a tree that transitioned between live action and animation. The final titles had a graphic, simple, and contemporary style based on the Vancouver location photos with text in a font inspired by their school doodles.
