Katie Taylor was born in 1998 in Bray, Co Wicklow, Ireland. She started boxing at age 12 and came from a boxing family, with her father as her coach. Some of her accomplishments include winning gold at the 2005 European Championships in Norway, representing Ireland in soccer internationally, meeting President Obama at the White House, being named World Female Boxer of the Year in 2010, and winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics by defeating her opponents in the semi-final on August 6th and the final on August 8th.

- 2. Katie was born on the second of June 1998 in Bray, Co Wicklow. She came from a boxing background, her father was her coach.
- 3. Katie started boxing at the at the age of 12. Her first success was at the 2005 European Championships in Tonsberg, Norway. She won the gold medal.
- 4. Katie is also a talented soccer player and has represented Ireland at an international level. She has said she loved playing for Ireland and she loved playing soccer but when it came down to it she would choose boxing as her number one sport.
- 5. She was invited to the White house last March to meet President Obama. She later described this as one of the greatest honours of her life. Katie was awarded World Female Boxer of the year award in November 2010.
- 6. Katie qualified for the 2012 summer Olympics Taylor’s first Olympic appearance was on the 6th of August after a first round bye. In the semi final on the 6th of August she won 17-9. Taylor won the final 10-8 on August 8th, winning an Olympics gold medal.
