Editor's Notes

  • #9: A lot of the studies we just mentioned are forward looking, as in where the cloud and SMBs are going in the near future. Now let’s look at the facts as they exist right now with Azure. What you see here is a story of momentum. More than 90,000 Azure subscriptions are added every month There are 1.4 Million SQL databases in Azure More than 13,000 organizations use Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite There are 3,200 apps in the Azure marketplace There are more than 350 million Active Directory users Combined together, companies are currently storing more than 45 trillion objects in Azure
  • #10: So why are so many customers using Azure? Well, simply put, Azure offers one of the most comprehensive and diversified cloud portfolios around. Azure helps SMBs grow with greater efficiency and be more responsive to change. It’s a flexible cloud platform that enables you to quickly build, deploy, and manage apps across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build these apps using any language, tool, or framework. And you can integrate your public cloud apps with your existing IT environment. This offers a real advantage over other platforms, which take an “all or nothing” strategy. A lot of SMBs wonder about the reliability of the cloud. Azure delivers a 99.95% monthly SLA, and automatic OS and service patching. And with a wide range of usage-based services, you can build apps, compute, use storage, take advantage of network services and a whole lot more. What you are seeing on the right side of this slide is a representation of just a few of these services that are currently available on Azure. We group these services into broad categories around Storage, Compute, Network and Application Services. We are constantly adding to this list. . As you might guess, such a detailed list can be overwhelming for most of our SMB customers. That’s why we highlight a few key services that are applicable to most of our customers.
  • #11: There are a lot of different scenarios and situations that you will find when trying to sell Azure to customers. We’ve taken the time to spotlight some of the most common examples. 1. First there’s deploying apps within virtual machines Azure help customers quickly deploy apps in the cloud by hosting them in Azure VMs. There are no up front infrastructure costs, you reduce IT management, and you can scale the app up or down as needed. 2. Second, there’s data backup With Azure, you can provide easy, scalable data backup in the cloud for a range of apps, such as SharePoint, SQL Server, and Exchange. For improved data protection, you can offer encrypted backups. Azure’s global geo-redundant datacenters protects you from disaster and helps you get up and running quickly should a failure occur. You also gain the flexibility to quickly and easily provision more storage for your customers as needed. 3. Third, there’s disaster recovery in the cloud With Azure Site Recovery and Windows Server 2012 R2, you can provide a fast, affordable disaster recovery solution for SMBs while avoiding the capital and operational expense of building and managing a datacenter. 4. Lastly, there’s hosting websites on Azure Azure offers a perfect platform for leveraging the cloud to deploy scalable websites. Hosting a website on Azure means that infrastructure management is covered, and you and your customers get the peace of mind from leveraging Microsoft’s global network of managed datacenters.
  • #12: SMBs rarely dive completely into the cloud. They want to take baby steps, see how things go, and then expand further into the environment. So when our partners start working with SMBs on a cloud solution, they typically encounter three scenarios. The first is the company that does everything on-premises but now is thinking of trying out the cloud. Their goal is to incorporate the cloud without impacting their existing on-premises environment. The second scenario is a customer one level up from the previous one. They still run most of their infrastructure on-premises. However, they recently incorporated the cloud into their environment and were impressed with the results. Now they want to add more cloud to their solution and remove some more of their on-premises dependency. Finally you have the customer that has seen enough of the cloud and experienced enough of the benefits to want to go completely into the cloud in a specific area of the business.
  • #13: Why this Slide: It shows we have a very broad platform. It about BOTH IaaS and PaaS, that these work together. It shows that we continue to lead in world class IT capabilities and that there’s really nothing missing. Key Points: We have already seen how the Azure Platform is IaaS + Pass – but I want you to understand that this is a huge number of capabilities – IT building blocks if you will. Every one of these blocks you provision anytime, self-service anywhere in the world 24x7. You pay for what you use, you can get more or less anytime and you can fully automate everything… DON’T spent too much time on this slide – you are going to DEMO (aren’t you!!!)… DON’T go through each block… Transition to NEXT Slide: Make the build go backwards to show JUST IaaS and then you will go to the demo to show it.
  • #14: The goal of this session is to help you respond to common objections you may hear from current and potential customers when presenting Azure. We’ll touch on questions and concerns about the cloud in general, about Azure specifically and about how Azure stacks up with the other industry leader, AWS. Before we dive into these objections, we want to first address the importance of understanding the customer’s position in the buying process. Change can be very stressful. With the cloud, you’re talking about changing the way customers do business. That’s not something to be taken lightly. That’s why it’s so important that you come in ready to really listen to them express their concerns and ease their fears. With all of your preparation and hard work, you can take advantage of a huge market opportunity. Let’s get to the heart of the matter concerning the cloud. A lot of companies don’t think about specific cloud solutions and vendors. They just don’t trust the cloud. Yet here’s the reality – most of them are already using the cloud in some form or fashion today―whether it’s their Netflix account, accessing their bank records, or paying their utility bills. Even normal wire transfers use the cloud. The point you want to land is that nothing is more important than a customer’s personal information about them and their family. If they’re willing to use cloud services to manage their personal life, surely the business they’re running can also realize some of those benefits. Okay, so just because they are using the cloud now doesn’t mean they trust it. So you have to change the dynamics of the conversation by showing all the ways the cloud is safe. First there’s encryption, which encodes all your content when it’s at rest or in transit. Second, there’s control. A hybrid solution lets you decide what gets stored on-premises and what goes to the cloud. You can also move information back and forth between as you see fit. Third, clouds must conform to global standards. Finally there’s just the physical aspect. Cloud datacenters have perimeter security around the building, building security, and room security. The data contained within the servers at the datacenter uses a higher level of standards than most SMBs do. These security services are built into the solution and not added on later. <click>
  • #15: A second objection we hear about the cloud is that they are all the same. The answer to that in the broadest of senses is yes, clouds do the same thing. But once you get past the surface, clouds are very different. The point you want to get across is that Azure has features and benefits that other clouds can’t offer, putting it above the competition. Microsoft has decades of experience building enterprise software and running some of the world’s largest online services to create a powerful set of security technologies and practices. That experience gets built into Azure. Also, because Azure comes from Microsoft, it can seamlessly connect to other Microsoft solutions and services. For developers, that means access to the same technologies that millions of businesses trust and use today. Microsoft solutions and services are built on a Trustworthy Computing foundation consisting of security, privacy, and reliability. Microsoft creates, implements, and continuously improves security-aware software development, operational, and threat mitigation practices, and shares this knowledge with government and commercial organizations. Microsoft engages in industry-leading security efforts through its own centers of excellence, including the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit, Microsoft Cybercrime Center, and Microsoft Malware Protection Center. Microsoft was the first cloud provider to offer customers E.U. Standard Contractual Clauses that provide additional contractual guarantees around transfers of personal data for in-scope services. Microsoft is also the first major cloud provider to have its approach to commercial agreements validated by several data privacy regulators and will contractually commit to CJIS with individual states. We continually collaborate with industry and governments to build trust in the cloud ecosystem.
  • #16: At Microsoft we make a commitment to principles worthy of your trust. Security Microsoft has decades-long experience building enterprise software and running some of the largest online services in the world. We focus on having the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data protected. Our datacenters are equipped with state-of-the-art physical security measures. We operate a 24x7 incident response team to mitigate threats and attacks. We encrypt data between you and our data centers. Finally, we protect your stored data with built-in tools and provide access to further encryption capabilities. Privacy and Control Customers will only use services they trust. For more than 20 years, Microsoft has been a leader in creating robust online solutions designed to protect the privacy of our customers. No one is able to use your data in a way that you do not approve. We enable you to keep your data in your region, and in some cases inside your country. We will not use your data for advertising or commercial purposes. We will not disclose your information outside of Microsoft except with your consent or when required by law. We provide a variety of tools to extract your data. Compliance Your content is stored and managed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards. We lead the industry in pursuing compliance with the latest standards for data privacy and security, such as ISO 27018. We regularly undergo independent audits to certify our compliance. In addition, we work with customers to help them meet their compliance requirements. Transparency Azure helps enable customer control over Customer Data by providing transparency into where that data is stored, who can access it, and how Microsoft helps secure it, with accessible tools and straightforward language. We provide understandable and strict policy of what we will—and will NOT—use your content for. When responding to law enforcement requests, we strive to defend your rights and privacy, and ensure due process is followed. For each of our services, we provide you with information on where your content may be stored and processed.
  • #17: Now we want to take a look at trusting Azure. Microsoft has decades-long experience building enterprise software and running some of the largest online services in the world. We’ve leveraged this experience to design security-aware software development, operational management, and threat mitigation practices that are essential to the strong protection of services and data in the cloud. Within the idea of a trusted cloud, Azure meets a broad set of international and industry-specific compliance standards and Microsoft plays a role in setting these standards to maintain data and business safety. Azure also offers visibility into where the data is stored, how we help secure it, who can access it, and under what circumstances. Then there’s control. With Azure, customers have ownership of their data, text, sound, video, or image files and software, They can access their data at any time and for any reason without assistance from Microsoft. They can control where it’s stored and how it is securely accessed and deleted. Finally, we build software for security from the ground up, following an approach known as the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) and we build privacy protections into Azure through Privacy by Design.
