The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) is a statutory body constituted under the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Act of 1966. KIADB's objectives are to promote rapid and orderly development of industries in Karnataka by acquiring land and developing industrial areas with basic infrastructure. KIADB has developed over 132 industrial areas across 28 districts, covering around 40,000 acres. Some major industrial areas developed by KIADB include Peenya, Bidadi, and Electronic City in Bangalore. KIADB also acquires land for the government and sets up special economic zones focused on sectors like textiles, pharmaceuticals, food processing, IT/ITES, and aerospace.
