Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter from 1882 to 1918 whose artistic style involved symbolism and ornamentation. He was interested in painting large murals and the human body, especially women, which became the theme of most of his later works. Klimt used pattern, symbols, and gold leaf in his paintings and it took him 4 years to complete his painting "Adel Block-Bauer I" from 1903 to 1907, in which he hid symbols and patterns within the cloak the woman is wearing.
