KOMATSU CRAWLER
EXCAVATOR - KOMVISION
Komatsu’s solution to ISO 5006:2017
ISO 5006:2017
2
• Previously, visibility and vision map testing was carried out only in one position:
travel position (1).
• ISO5006 requires full vision availability during all operations.
Testing is now required in 3 positions: (1,2,3)
KomVision
• Excavators will have
3 or 4 cameras
factory fitted
depending on the
model of the
machine.

Komatsu’s solution to improving operators field of view.
How is the “birds eye” view created?
• The birds eye view is created
by taking the individual
signals from each camera and
“stitching” them together to
create a seamless overhead
view of the machine.
• The overlap areas of the
cameras is enough to ensure
a clean transfer from one
camera to the next.

Single Camera area
Overlapping Camera area
Why is KomVision not a 360 camera system?
• For crawler and wheeled excavators the working area visibility directly in front of the
operators cab is excellent – no need to be covered by an extra camera.
• Incorporating the working area in front of the machine into KomVision would mean
including the work equipment which is constantly moving during working – this
could distract the operator.
• The operator should be concentrating on his operation and the constant movement
of the work equipment on the monitor can be distracting.
• Also constant movement on the monitor panel can desensitise the operator from
movement in more critical areas around the machine.

Out of View
Extra safety features
• Camera image automatically changes to the default screen when
any hydraulic controls are activated.
• This is NOT a requirement of ISO 5006:2017.
6
Any control movement will activate the
monitor default screen
e.g. F6 to select options.
If PPC or travel levers are activated
the monitor will return to the default
image.
