Week 6 Reflection
Use the following questions to reflect on the
ways that artists explore environmental themes
in their work.
•Can human activities be regarded as separate
from the natural world?
•Is ‘nature’ just as constructed as the urban
environment?
•How can environmental ethics be embodied by
an artwork?
•How does climate change affect the way we
make art? Does the artist have more or less
responsibility than others?
Make notes in your blog.

1.3 OBJECT (Week 7/8 Task)
Produce a 3D print of a digital composition
using the applications Metashape and
Blender.
Activity has 2 stages: scanning and modelling
Next week:
Photogrammetry Session: body scanning
• Bring your smart phone
• Consider clothing, props, objects
• Avoid shiny materials (eg buckles, patent
leather)
• Avoid transparent materials
• Avoid black materials (corduroy or
textured blacks may be OK)
Week 8:
Blender: stay tuned for online intro; prepare
by downloading the application from
blender.org

2.5 SIMPLIFICATION (Independent Task)
Create a new work that is derived from an earlier
one by simplifying the composition. (c. 10hrs)
How many elements can be
removed/consolidated/etc from the work before
it ceases to 'say' anything?
Notes:
Subtraction is one way of simplifying - but there
are other strategies that you may like to consider:
• grouping/clustering multiple parts into one;
• decreasing contrast/tone to blur elements
together;
• reducing your colour palette;
• making more active use of space.
