Project Overview
In this section you will outline the aim of the project/task and give an
overview of the activates you undertook to complete it.
What was the theme of your project and
what attracted you to it?
The theme of my product was a documentary about sport (snooker). This product attracted to me
as I have always been into sports and documentaries on the players and how they achieved things.
So, I wanted to create one myself and see how good it came out as I am interested in filming and
wanted to improve on it so I thought this would be a great opportunity to do so.
What research did you undertake and how
did it help develop your project?
The research I used was preexisting documentaries on the sport as I watched how the producers
filmed them as they sue to film a lot of game footage on the players playing and I watch how long
they would have of one person talking at a time for exmaple how many people they would
interview at once. However, there was one main issue when it came to my planning was that I didn't
look to see if I could film in the snooker club as a result of this, I had to change my location for my
documentary as I decide to film in my garage as I had all the equipment there however it lost the
same feeling of it being made by a professional. Next time I do this I will be doing a thorough
research on locations and planning to make a better product.
How did you develop and improve your ideas
throughout the project?
The improvements I made to my ideas through the project was how to portray the questions in a
creative way as at first, I was going to have a blank screen come up or to have the question asked by
someone. However, I changed my idea to make it more creative I moved objects to hide the text or
to remove it for example I hit the cue ball and as the ball moved over the table words started to
appear this makes the product more interesting and appealing for the audience.
What was the outcome of the project/task?
The outcome of my product could have been a lot better in my option as I didn't do as much
research and planning as I should have done as this ruined some of my ideas I had to create. For
exmaple one of the things that I was wanting to create for my interview was setting it up in the
snooker club and having the tbale as a background as it would look at lot more professional and
creative. Furthermore, the other issue with my idea was that not many people knew anything about
my product this made it very difficult to make a good professional product as I could only interview
a very small selection of people and it was difficult to find them as no knew anything about snooker.
However, despite me not being able to film in the club I think that I have made the best of what I
could make in my situation as I believe that my product is creative and appelaing towardas my
target audience.
Personal Response
This section will explore your thoughts and feelings about the
experience. This will help gain a understand of how your personal
feelings may have impacted the final outcome.
How did you feel about the project before
you started?
Before I started the product, I was excited to be able to do something that I am passionate about
and show my skills off both with the sprt and filming it in a creative way. I knew I had a lot of various
ideas that I could use for my product and that I has multiple editing skills I could use to make it look
even better and more professional. I was very excited to create the product as it is something I am
interested in, as I like the sport and I enjoy filming as there are numerous editing skills and effects
that I can use to make a good product.
What do you think about your project development and
how did it help you to refine your idea?
This helped me as I knew excatly what I was going to mkake and what I was going to involve in it as
this was good as it made me be able to make a product that I am proud of. Furthemore it helped me
as I was able to see how others have created their products and from there, I could see what I
needed to add and the couler scheme I should be using in it to make it good looking. When I was
looking ast this I saw that there was a lot of dark colours being utilised such as black as this created
mystery and this will make the audienc einterested ijn the p[roduct as the audienc ewill want to find
out more about the snooker player.
Did you collaborate on your project or engage
contributors, etc?
I didn't involve any contributers as for my product there wasn'ty anyone that knew about snooker or
any of its history with players that have played it this was a downside to my product as I was a lone
to create it as I was the only available person to contribute to my own work. However, if I did have
people, I would have been able to make the interview more interesting and interactive for the
audience as they are only seeing the same person on every interview.
How did you feel when the project was
completed and why?
I felt ashamed when I completed my product as I knew that I could have madew it ten times better
that the outcome as I felt that it was almost like rushed as it looked this way, I also believe that I
should have done my timing and researhc better planned as this was the main donwfall to my
product as I didn't research the right things this made my planning go horribly wrong. I believe if I
was to dop this again with the same time I would be able to make a better product that would look
more professional for the audience.
Evaluating the project
In the previous sections, you have been commenting upon the project development. The
evaluation may include some similar information but it will also include critical comment.
An evaluation must include information about the good and bad points of the project and it
is important to be honest. Finally, you should make a judgment about the effectiveness of
the success of the project
What were the good points about the project/task and what did you
learn from them? [try and think of at least 3, more if possible]
• The editing with the questions that I did I believe that this is creative and looks professional and
that I could't have done it any better than what I did as I learned how to do this effectively
• Editing again as I was able to make objects move and the questions also move in a creative way, I
learnt from this that are more than one way to make the questions appear more creatively and
professiopanly
• Camera angles that I used were creative as I utilesed time-lapse and slow motion, I learnt that
there are multiple ways to record things and that I can make the footage look better
What challenges did you face and how did you
respond to them? Try and think of at least 3...
• When a clip was too fast, I slowed it down in premeir pro by changing the speed of the clip by
slowing it down
• Some of the footage was the wrong way around as it was coming out upside down so what I did
was I edited the clip and rotated it 90 degrees to either side when it was the right way up
• Getting a strobe lighting effect appear when assembling footage, to fix this I had to edit the clip
and add special effects to it to make it stop however on some clips it would dissapear fully so I
ended up changing the opacity of the footage
What were the negative points about the
experience, and what could you have done to
improve them?
• The camera was shaking whilst filming, to fix this I could have used a tripod to try and keep the
camera as still as possible to make it look more professional to the target audience.
• The location I used, wasn't a suitbale location to film as it didn't suit my product at all I had to sue
this as the place I wanted to go to didn't allow me to film, in fututre I will do a more of a
thorough search into things like this, so it doesn't happen again
• The lighting was different in the location that I was using as half the room was dark and the other
half was light this made a strobe like effect uipon the footage, next time I will make sure
that there is no chan ge in colour throughout the product and when in a dark enviroment stay
away from windows as sunlight got in on the snooker tbale
How would you rate the final piece? [think along the lines of
poor, satisfactory, good or excellent...justify your rating]
• I would rate my final piece satisfactory the main reson was my planning as this is where it went
horribly wrong. I've given this as I know I can do a lot better than this and that this is something I
am not happy with submitting as the footage was shaking as I didn't use a tripod when filming the
interview had some background noises or it wasn't very clear next time, I do this I will do it a lot
better as I now know what to do and what to avoid.
What is your opinion of your final piece? What
elements do you think are successful and why?
I think that my final piece isn't good at all and could be a lot better however there was some
sucessful elements to my work for example this mainly was my editing skills. As I was able to display
my questions in a creative way and make it look professional, for example I faded in and out the text
I used moving objects to write the wrtiting to get rid of it as when I hit a cue ball over it the wrtitng
would disapear as the ball went over it.
How well did your project apply the characteristics
and conventions of the medium you worked in?
I believe that it worked very well in this sense as I made everything look like the real thing as I had
the same effects a professioanl product would have in a snooker documentary. I also made sure that
the colour scheme was the right one as for the product that I chose it has a dark colour scheme as
its main colours are green and black so the background I made sure matched the nviroment for
these colours.
How did you design apeal to your target
audience?
• As my target audience is between the ages of 16-24, I tried to use editing tyechniques to make my
product more appewlaing for the youth one reason to why I chose my producy was because of
this age group as there is a growing number in this age group of people playing snooker. I also
tried to aim questions that they might be wondering about the snooker player and that might
interest them in the product.
Analysis
In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make
sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how
your decisions informed the project development and the success of the
outcome.
In what ways was the overall project a
success?
The thjing that made my product a success was when it came down to editing as this is what I am
very strong nn doing as I can make it creative and porfessional I was able to make my product more
entertaining as I was able to get rid of some of my faults such as the strobe lighting in some of the
footage, I was able to get rid of it, then some of the clips where too quick so I slowed it down and
speeded up some of the clips that were too slow.
How did your skills develop during the portfolio? [remember,
skills aren't just technical, remember things like organisation,
time management, communication, etc as well]
I believe that using the website helped to to keep my work organised as I was able to clearly identify
what was there and what was missin g this helped me to keep on top with my work and what I
needed to complete, and I think that this went very well. However, despite how good my
organsitation was my time management was very bad as my research didn't go well as I couldn't
film in the location, I chose it took me time to find a place where I could film instead this wasted a
lot of time doing nothing and this resulted in me not having as much time to edit as I would have
liked to.
What meaning and messages did you want to
convey and were you successful?
• I was wanting to show that dedication and hard work can make you the world's best player as this
is what this person kid and that they started off bad but got better and better. I believe that I have
made this point clear to the audience in my interview.
What feedback did you get from your peers
and viewings?
• The interview wasn't very clear and could have been better if I had made the sound louder
• The editing with the transitions of the questions were very good
• The camera angles could have been better
• The editing of the footage was very good as I changed the colours to make it look more
professional and eye catching
• The voice overlay made the product a lot better
What would you do differently in the future
and why?
Put a lot more time into research and planning in the future as this is what ruined my product this
time as I had to rethink my idea from the start again. I will do a product a lot more people are
familiar with so then if I need an interview, I will have people for it. Lastly, I will manage my time a
lot better as I will do a time plan for specific tasks as well such as involving milestones into my
work.
What knowledge have you gained that would help you in the
future to improve your project? Also, what knowledge from
academic literature and professionals has helped and why?
That planning is just as important as being able to edit as I was strugling a lot in this product to
make something good as I didn't plan properly like I should've done in my work. also, I now know to
use tripods when filming a lot m,ore as I had to try and balance my phone with objects to try and
keep it as still as possible however if I was to sue the tripod with a camera in the first place, I could
have had a better product.
Action Plan
This section will identify what you would do differently in the future and
identify ways you could develop.
If you were making a similar project in the
future, what would you do differently?
I would be filming with a camera and a tripod; I would then spend a lot more time on planning and
researching locations and permissons regarding whether I am allowed to film there as this wasted a
lot of my time in this product. I will also get some people from outside my course to help me out
with my product.
How could you develop your skills for future projects? Please
identify the appropriate resources and courses. For example,
webpages, tutorials, books, short courses and qualifications.
• I could learn how to use camera to their full potential
• I could look a tutorials on how to make a good product
• I could look online about a subject in the product where I can learn more about it
• I could learn more softwares such as 3D artwork where you cvan make characters or other
software to make it easier
What personal attributes could you develop to
ensure you are working at a professional level?
• I could keep comapiring my work to others and see if there any other improvements I could make
to my own work
• I could sue the same techniques that they use and develop them into my work
• I could start to improve on little bits if detail that you struggle to see this will make it mreo clean
and more professioanl
• I could learn even more advanced editing skills mainly in premier pro sa I see other creators use
timelines to make their work sync with the beat of music

I believe that it worked very well in this sense as I made everything look like the real thing as I had the same effects a professioanl product would have in a snooker documentary. I also made sure that the colour scheme was the right one as for the product that I chose it has a dark colour scheme as its main colours are green and black so the background I made sure matched the nviroment for these colours.
  • 20. How did you design apeal to your target audience? • As my target audience is between the ages of 16-24, I tried to use editing tyechniques to make my product more appewlaing for the youth one reason to why I chose my producy was because of this age group as there is a growing number in this age group of people playing snooker. I also tried to aim questions that they might be wondering about the snooker player and that might interest them in the product.
  • 21. Analysis In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how your decisions informed the project development and the success of the outcome.
  • 22. In what ways was the overall project a success? The thjing that made my product a success was when it came down to editing as this is what I am very strong nn doing as I can make it creative and porfessional I was able to make my product more entertaining as I was able to get rid of some of my faults such as the strobe lighting in some of the footage, I was able to get rid of it, then some of the clips where too quick so I slowed it down and speeded up some of the clips that were too slow.
  • 23. How did your skills develop during the portfolio? [remember, skills aren't just technical, remember things like organisation, time management, communication, etc as well] I believe that using the website helped to to keep my work organised as I was able to clearly identify what was there and what was missin g this helped me to keep on top with my work and what I needed to complete, and I think that this went very well. However, despite how good my organsitation was my time management was very bad as my research didn't go well as I couldn't film in the location, I chose it took me time to find a place where I could film instead this wasted a lot of time doing nothing and this resulted in me not having as much time to edit as I would have liked to.
  • 24. What meaning and messages did you want to convey and were you successful? • I was wanting to show that dedication and hard work can make you the world's best player as this is what this person kid and that they started off bad but got better and better. I believe that I have made this point clear to the audience in my interview.
  • 25. What feedback did you get from your peers and viewings? • The interview wasn't very clear and could have been better if I had made the sound louder • The editing with the transitions of the questions were very good • The camera angles could have been better • The editing of the footage was very good as I changed the colours to make it look more professional and eye catching • The voice overlay made the product a lot better
  • 26. What would you do differently in the future and why? Put a lot more time into research and planning in the future as this is what ruined my product this time as I had to rethink my idea from the start again. I will do a product a lot more people are familiar with so then if I need an interview, I will have people for it. Lastly, I will manage my time a lot better as I will do a time plan for specific tasks as well such as involving milestones into my work.
  • 27. What knowledge have you gained that would help you in the future to improve your project? Also, what knowledge from academic literature and professionals has helped and why? That planning is just as important as being able to edit as I was strugling a lot in this product to make something good as I didn't plan properly like I should've done in my work. also, I now know to use tripods when filming a lot m,ore as I had to try and balance my phone with objects to try and keep it as still as possible however if I was to sue the tripod with a camera in the first place, I could have had a better product.
  • 28. Action Plan This section will identify what you would do differently in the future and identify ways you could develop.
  • 29. If you were making a similar project in the future, what would you do differently? I would be filming with a camera and a tripod; I would then spend a lot more time on planning and researching locations and permissons regarding whether I am allowed to film there as this wasted a lot of my time in this product. I will also get some people from outside my course to help me out with my product.
  • 30. How could you develop your skills for future projects? Please identify the appropriate resources and courses. For example, webpages, tutorials, books, short courses and qualifications. • I could learn how to use camera to their full potential • I could look a tutorials on how to make a good product • I could look online about a subject in the product where I can learn more about it • I could learn more softwares such as 3D artwork where you cvan make characters or other software to make it easier
  • 31. What personal attributes could you develop to ensure you are working at a professional level? • I could keep comapiring my work to others and see if there any other improvements I could make to my own work • I could sue the same techniques that they use and develop them into my work • I could start to improve on little bits if detail that you struggle to see this will make it mreo clean and more professioanl • I could learn even more advanced editing skills mainly in premier pro sa I see other creators use timelines to make their work sync with the beat of music
