This document summarizes the layers of Earth's atmosphere. It begins with the troposphere, the lowest layer where weather occurs and aircraft fly. It extends from the surface up to 17km and contains 90% of gases. Above is the stratosphere, extending from 10-50km, where temperature increases with altitude. The mesosphere is next from 50-80km, where temperature decreases with altitude. Above that is the thermosphere from 80-110km, where the space shuttle and auroras are located. The outermost layer is the exosphere, merging into space up to 640km high with very high temperatures.
