Hence, this paper attempt to examine and describe the phonological features of my pronunciation
using rather similar methodology and phonological analysis to that used in the study of phonological
features by Deterding and Salbrina (2013) as well as Deterding (2015).
2. Data and Methodology
2.1 Materials
The speech analysis uses the Wolf passage recommended by Deterding (2006) and Pratt application
(Boersma Weenink, 2010). The Wolf passage is used to describe English pronunciation as it provides
wide range of English sounds (Deterding, 2006). Meanwhile, the Pratt application is used to listen to
the sound files, view the spectrograms and to measure vowel formants.
2.2 Task The speaker (my self) is expected to read the Wolf passage and do five minute interview with
the tutor.
2.3 Procedure
In a quiet room in Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the speaker was recorded using a voice recorder
performing the task. Prior to recording, I was given few minutes to read the passage. Then, I was
asked to analyze my own recording based on my auditory judgements and acoustic measurements.

Point 1 Low consensus on an issue (or a law like Prohibition) means enforcement is going to be
difficult. To enforce an unpopular law significant resources need to be committed to the enforcement
effort (e.g., regulation surveillance, violation arrests, court enforcement, etc.) How did this play itself

Isaac Asimov s 1955 short story Franchise tells the story of a future United States in which all
elections are decided by a supercomputer, known as Multivac. In order to work, a single citizen is
selected to answer a series of questions; Multivac uses that person s responses along with other
information to determine who the winner of an election is. This story works as a prime example of the
concept of subjectivity as discussed in Jeffrey Nealon and Susan Searls Giroux s book The Theory
Toolbox.

From the very beginning, it seems that the supposedly free self is already a responding subject (39).
This dual nature is evident in the main character of Asimov s Franchise, Norman Muller.
Norman Muller is average; even his name seems to hint at that. A description early in the story
reinforces that sense of averageness:
His forehead bore deepening lines born of uncertainty and, in general, he had never seduced his
clerkly soul with the thought that he was either born great or would under any circumstances achieve
greatness. He had a wife, a job and a little girl and except under extraordinary conditions of elation or

While by no means a unique individual, Norman seems to have some sense of self based upon this
description. He did not feel the urge to set himself apart from others or to define himself to be some
sort of false greatness. Norman is perfectly happy with his average self, his adequate bargain struck
with life. As excitement grows in the Muller house about the possibility of the vote happening in
Indiana, Norman s anxiety seems to increase over this adequate bargain being at risk.
Perhaps Norman is fearful of being selected voter of the year because he recognizes the erasure of

An individual s sense of belonging is determined not only by their own choices but also attitudes of
others.
Belonging is the connection to person place, or thing. Belonging can have a positive impacts for
example, immigrants arriving in a new country and bad examples can include someone blending into a
bad population. Poems Migrant Hostel and 10 Mary Street portray belonging via literary techniques

The objective was to establish a comparison between Polish migrants and birds such as pigeons. Birds
are free and accepted in their micro communities, unlike Skrzynecki whom is isolated from belonging.
The poet struggles to find a sense of belonging, using the technique irony to highlight his search for

techniques to convey belonging in order to encourage society to accept migrants who have already
experienced hardship. In summary, Skrzynecki uses an array of techniques to evoke the search of
belonging to the readers.

bond to his childhood home which offered him stability in a new environment . The poem by
Skrzynecki conveys feelings to readers received from the place of his memories, in the home. The
poet utilizes literary technique personification, which allows the audience to visualize his admirable

Discuss the importance of the role that the Chorus plays in Euripedes Medea.

br The Chorus is very much an important part of Euripedes Medea, and indeed many other works
written in the ancient Greek style. In this play, it follows the journey Medea makes, and not only
narrates, but commentates on what is happening. Euripedes uses the Chorus as a literary device to
raise certain issues, and to influence where the sympathies of the audience lie.

When Medea married Jason, she married herself to him for life. She was expected to be totally
obedient and to accept whatever her husband willed. For her to look upon another man other than her

type of situation would most likely have been different in Euripedes time, to today. Obviously one can
t know this for sure, but one can deduce it from what we know of that era. Although some wouldn t
have condoned Jason s actions, many would have seen it as normal because it would have been a
much more common occurrence then than today. Nonetheless, in presenting these sort of issues in a
moralistic play to the audience of the day was a brave and controversial thing to do. Obviously, the
views on the these issues have come along way since the time when this play was written, so today s
audience adapts the messages in this play to their own morality. The treatment of women, and of
Medea, and the circumstances that Medea is faced with, help the audience to, not condone, but
understand the reasons for Medea s actions at the end of the play.

This book s story shows the reader Zebra s problems and solutions that are needed to fix the
wrongdoings of the main character. First, Zebra needed to change his attitude when he broke his arm
and injured his leg. His accident was the catalyst for the rest of the problems in the book. Evidence,

The arc has to do with the book s idea of eternal return, Nietzsche s ideas of the eternal recurrence of
time. However, although Kundera is a South Asian writer, the pick up truck and the icebox suggest a
very American setting. In many ways, this poem is unusual in its subject. It deters in several ways
from a typical aubade, such as Donne s The Sun Rising or the internal aubade introducing the bird
narrator in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde. For this poem, it is important to note that rather than
detailing the parting of lovers, this poem addresses a parting which has already taken place. The
speaker is likely driving away from his love, having left her, and imagining her still asleep. The last

Does it matter what we are called: Latino or Hispanic? Does it change who we are as people? To an
extent, most people do not know the difference between either. Typically, people group both terms as
one singular item. However, Hispanic and Latino racial classifications are more than a broad category

terminology that based its success on the failures of innocent, historically peaceful, cultural groups.

In The Phaedo, one of Socrates aims is to convince us that our souls existed prior to our birth. In
making this argument, he claims that we had some knowledge of imperceptible things prior to our
birth, and that through recollection of our pre birth knowledge of imperceptible things, we are able to
perceive certain qualities of things like equality beginning after our birth. Socrates argument begins by
defining recollection as when someone perceives one thing, knows that thing, and also thinks of
another thing of which the knowledge is not the same but different (73c). Socrates asks that we
consider our perception of equal things, such as sticks and sticks or stones and stones. He claims there
is Equal itself or the Form of Equality, which is unmistakably equal at all times (74a). Once the Form
