- 2. Computer Networking When two electrical devices are connected with each other for data communication, they form a network. Types of Networking: 1) SAN (Storage Area Network) 2) PAN (Personal Area Network) 3) HAN (Home Area Network) 4) CAN (Campus Area Network)
- 3. SAN (Storage Area Network) A Storage area network is a dedicated network that provides access to consolidated, block level data storage. SANs are primarily used to make storage devices, such as disk arrays, tape libraries, and optical jukeboxes. PAN (Personal Area Network) This is a computer network organized around an individual person. Personal area networks typically involve a mobile computer, a cell phone or a handheld computing device such as a PDA. You can use these networks to transfer files including e-mail and calendar appointments, digital phones and music. HAN (Home Area Network) A home network is two or more computers interconnected to form a local area network (LAN) within the home. In the United States, for example, it is estimated that 15 million homes have more than one computer. A home network allows computer owners to interconnect multiple computers so that each can share files, programs, printers, other peripheral devices, and Internet access with other computers.
- 4. CAN (Campus Area Network) A Campus area network is made up of an interconnection of LANs within a limited geographical area. For example, a university campus network is likely to link a variety of campus buildings to connect academic colleges or departments, the library, and student residence halls.
