A learning management system (LMS) is a software application that institutions use to administer, track, and deliver online and blended courses. Early LMS systems emerged in the 1990s to enable distance learning for students who could not physically attend seminary. Today, LMS platforms support a wide range of features for educational and corporate training purposes, including online course authoring, classroom management, mobile learning, and skills tracking. Educational institutions implement LMS to provide online course delivery and supplement on-campus learning, while corporate training departments use them to conduct employee training online.
