Learning management system
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for
the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery
of electronic educational technology
Learning Management Systems range from systems for managing
training and educational records
Educational institutes use LMS to deliver online courses and
augment on-campus courses. Corporate training departments use
LMSs to deliver online training, as well as to automate record-
keeping and employee registration
History
In the early ’90s some Luther Seminary (St. Paul) faculty members
were struggling to retain students who didn’t have the funds or,
because of family obligations, couldn’t relocate to attend seminary.
Tom Walker knew there had to be some kind of tool that would
enable people to communicate with each other without being in the
same place at the same time
Learning management systems (LMS) also sometimes known as
Course management systems (CMS) have come a long way since
those early days.
