LEARNING
THROUGH THE NET
Group 7
In the comedy Love's Labour's Lost, King Ferdinand and his three
lords Dumain, Longaville, and Berowne took an oath stating that
for three years, they will devote themselves to edu- cation to
become famous scholars. In olden times, education was more
linear and in many ways, a lot more difficult. To be a scholar or
someone great, you had to devote many hours each day reading
books by candlelight while manually writing your thoughts and
ideas until your hands hurt. Fortunately, technology came to our
rescue, and the computer, followed by the Internet,
revolutionized the whole educational process.
A WORLD OF
INFORMATION
The Internet is a worldwide nerwork of computer resources that
facilitates information exchange. It provides an enormous wealth
of information that continues to grow bigger each day. The
following are some advantages to learning that the Internet
provides:
01 - BRANDING
03 - SOCIAL MEDIA
Whether it's about genetics, mathematics, history or famous
personalities, the Internet can give you information on
practically any topic you need to research on, be it for your
class paper, presentation, examination, or simply to satisfy
your curiosity. Fast connectivity and powerful search engines
let the information you need come to you in no time. The
great thing about the Internet is that it provides a wide
selection of resources. This allows you to analyze, compare,
and contrast various sources and materials to be able to see
different perspectives or extract the data you deem
accurate, useful, or relevant to your learning.
01 - IT ALLOWS YOU TO GET DATA
ON VIRTUALLY ANY SUBJECT
IMAGINABLE.
02 - IT ENABLES YOU TO BE
UPDATED WITH THE THINGS YOU
NEED TO BE UPDATED ABOUT.
With the Internet, breaking news is always at your fingertips.
Keeping abreast on current events can make your learning
experience more meaningful as this allows you to use or
cross- reference such information to what you're being
taught inside the classroom. Aside from actual news, lots of
commentaries and viewpoints are also readily available. The
reactions and opinions of experts and everyday folks can
deepen your understanding and widen your perspective of
the ever-changing world we live in.
01 - BRANDING
03 - SOCIAL MEDIA
The Internet's 24/7 accessibility allows you to learn anytime,
anywhere. Thema no closing hours like in a library, school, or
laboratory. You can continue learning after classes have
ended or while on vacation from school. You can keep on
perusing encyclopedias and academic resources regardless
of the time or day. The Internet lets you plan and carry out
your educational activities at your utmost convenience. You
ha more freedom and independence to search for
knowledge and use that independences your educational
advantage.
03 - IT LETS YOU PLAN YOUR OWN
LEARNING SCHEDULE.
04 - GIVES YOU THE OPPORTUNITY
TO REQUEST INFORMATION.
The Internet doesn't just enable you to search and find the
data you need; it also allows you to ask for it. Should you feel
that you need more information aside from what you've
already accessed, forums and Web services such as Yahoo!
Answers and MyLot allow you to post questions and get your
specific answers that range from Learning Enhancem
opinions from ordinary people willing to share what they
know to specialists in specif fields. Through the Net, you can
also correspond with resource persons and subject experts
and even participate in educational discussions.
1. It's best to always ask
permission to use
material when you're in
doubt.
Otherwise, simply produce
your own material or use
those that you can reproduce
or reuse base on a valid
licensing agreement.
2. To see whether text in Wikipedia can be
reused or not, look at the page footer, the page
history, or the discussion page of the article that
uses the text. If it does not have a GFDL license,
then its likely not reusable. The same goes for
images.
The licenses that cover it are indicated there,
and it also states whether its free or not or if fair
use policies (under applicable Copyright laws)
apply to your use of it.
USING INFORMATION
RESPONSEBILITY
3.If you wish to use other
sources apart from Wikipedia,
then do a search online for
reference sites that distinctly
and clearly offer their
material for free. Read the
terms of use of the policy
page to be sure.

wherever the student is located. While virtual classrooms serve as the
main learning center or “classroom” for students pursuing a distance
education program, virtual classrooms also benefit formal education
programs as it allows the students to communicate their ideas or ask
questions whenever they want to, wherever they are.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) gives free access to lecture notes,
exams, and videos that reflect practically all the undergraduate courses offered at
MIT.
They are accessible to anyone through the MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) site and the
service does not even require users to register.
One well-known institution in the Philippines that offers distance education is the
University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). Established in 1995, UPOU
provides education opportunities online to those who seek higher education and
