Definitionof Journalism Lecture -1
“Something that embraces all forms in which and through which the news and
comments on the news reach the public. All that happens in the world, if such
happenings hold interest for the public, and all the thought, actions, and ideas
which these happenings stimulate become the materials for the journalist.”-F.

Journalismis a hands-on, professionally oriented major that involves gathering,
interpreting, distilling, and reporting information to audiences through a variety
of media. Journalismmajors learn about every conceivable kind of Journalism
(including magazine, newspaper, online journalism, photojournalism, broadcast
journalism, and public relations).
Journalismrefers to the news or feature stories (light, entertainment stories) that
are expressed either in a descriptiveway or concise pattern through different
types of media. A journalistreports news, which can be used in print, on
television, aired on radio or even published on the Internet. The main purposeof
a journalistis to report news with accurate facts. However, throughoutthe years,
there have been differenttypes of journalismdeveloped that havegiven different
