Purpose of Maintenance: Attempt to maximize performance of production equipment efficiently and regularly. Prevent breakdown or failures. Minimize production loss from failures. Increase reliability of the operating systems.

- 23. 23 Economical Production The work-piece must be manufactured in a good and cheap way. – It must correspond to the demands regarding material, shape, accuracy to size and surface quality – The machining time must be as short as possible – The total manufacturing cost should be as low as possible including tooling cost, raw materials cost , labor cost and non-productive cost.
