- 2. Урок 1: Практика чтения Each lesson has a reading “lab” exercise similar to this one. The goal of these exercises is to help you learn both to read the Cyrillic alphabet with ease and to infer meaning through transliteration and applying grammar you’ve studied so far. Go through each of the slides and answer the questions. You should be able to understand most of them simply by transliterating the words.

What do the words under the names mean (consult a dictionary) and how can we explain the endings?

It’s named after a song by one of the Arbat’s most famous residents, the bard-poet Bulat Okudzhava. A monument to Okudzhava can be found on the street as well (and people like to get their pictures taken next to it).
