Objectives:
 To add and subtract
integers
 Memorize the rule in
addition and subtraction of
integers,
 Enjoy participating in the
discussion.
A number line is a straight line with a "zero"
point in the middle, with positive and
negative numbers listed on either side of
zero and going on indefinitely.
 Absolute value  describes the distance of
a number on the number line from 0
without considering which direction from
zero the number lies. It is denoted by two
bars ( I I ).

Algebra tiles
Add the following using algebra tiles:
1. 5 + (-7) =
2. (-4) + (-2) =
3. 9 + 12 =
4. 12 + (-3) =
5. 6 + 5 =
Subtraction of Integers
To subtract signed numbers, add its
additive inverse, for any real numbers
(x) – (-y)= x + (y)
(x) _ (+y)= x + (-y)
Examples:
a. 2- (-4) = ____
2 + 4 = 6
b. (-4) – (-9) = _____
(-4) + 9 = 5
RULES IN ADDITION OF INTEGERS

Activity: ROLL TO WIN!
Materials:
die, coin, and score card
The goal of the game is to reach the score of 10 or
-10. Both players start at 0. Player A throw a die,
say 5 comes up, the same player flips a coin. If the
head comes up 5 is positive, if the tail comes up 5
is negative. Player A then writes the score on the
first box. Player A and B takes turns on throwing a
die and a coin. If the first throw, Player A gets the
score of 5 and the second throw a score of -6, his
score now is -1, since 5 + (-6) =-1, it will be written
on the second box.
In the event that both have filled the boxes in the
scorecard the score with the highest absolute
value wins the game.
