This lesson plan is for a 2-day comprehension lesson using the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. On day 1, students will be introduced to 4 new vocabulary words and participate in activities to build prediction skills. They will read the book, making predictions along the way. Day 2 focuses on teaching cause and effect through examples from the book. Students will participate in activities to practice identifying causes and effects, including a matching game and worksheet. Literacy centers are provided at different skill levels for students to further explore causes and effects.
