Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan is considered the father of library science. He developed the colon classification system to systematically organize books. There are several types of libraries including public, academic, and special libraries. Public libraries are funded by the public to provide free services. Academic libraries serve the students and faculty of educational institutions. Special libraries have collections focused on specific topics, materials, or user groups. Libraries play an important role in building knowledge, aiding research, and supporting education.
