Consumer Math HOW DO YOU FIND OUT WHAT JOBS ARE A GOOD MATCH FOR YOU? You need to understand your  values .  What is important to you?  We are going to take a short quiz.
Making the Right Job Choice The 5 W’s of Finding  the Right Job WHO (will find me a job?) WHAT (job will I get?) WHERE (will I work?) WHEN (will I get a job?) WHY (should I work?) HOW (much will I make?)
EARNING MONEY At the end of this chapter, you will be able to: Figure out your  wages  by the week and by the year. Figure out your wages when  overtime  is involved.  Figure out your wages when they include  tips  or  piecework .
EARNING MONEY At the end of this chapter, you will be able to: Use  rounding  to figure out your  salary  in a  pay period .  Figure out salary for different pay periods.  To know the difference between  gross pay  and  net pay.
EARNING MONEY WAGES….Know how much money you have! Working hard is great, but don’t waste it.  Understand how to figure out how much money you have.
EARNING MONEY How do you figure out how much money you make? You need to know 2 things:  Hourly Rate Total Hours Worked
EARNING MONEY WAGES = Hours X Rate This gives you the total amount of money earned.  For example….. If you worked  8 hours  and earned  $6  per hour, you would figure it out this way: 8  x  $6 =  $48 earned
EARNING MONEY You need to know how to figure out your money in a few ways…… By the Hour By the Day By the Week By the Month By the Year WHY?
EARNING MONEY So you can know what you can afford! You can’t buy it, until you know you can afford it.  Banks will want to know how much you make.
EARNING MONEY Full time work is usually 40 hours a week. A regular work day is usually 8 hours a day. A regular work week is usually 5 days a week.  You can’t get benefits from a company unless you work full-time.
EARNING MONEY DAILY WAGES: Number of Hours worked that day Multiplied (X) By your hourly rate
EARNING MONEY WEEKLY WAGES: Number of Hours worked that Week Multiplied (X) By your hourly rate
EARNING MONEY MONTHLY WAGES: Number of Hours worked that Month Multiplied (X) Your Hourly Rate
KEEPING TRACK OF HOURS YOU WILL USE A TIMECARD
KEEPING TRACK OF HOURS If you fill it out wrong, you won’t get paid.  Don’t make this mistake!!! Some will be filled out on the computer, so we will practice that. Always be honest on your timecard.  If you aren’t, you could be fired.
