Tell me a little bit about yourself Give your 5 minute or 30 second elevator pitch  Key accomplishments Strengths demonstrated by these accomplishments How these strengths relate to the job you are applying for The Goal:  To convey why you are the perfect hire or candidate for the position **Don’t talk about personal information i.e. family, how many children you have etc.
Why did you leave your last job? Remember to be honest and keep details professional LAID OFF- Common in today’s market and will not omit you from consideration FIRED- Never speak poorly of previous employer, reference checks likely to be performed DOWNSIZED- Short explanation on account and information such as you being in the 3d round of those let go **Be Honest!
What are your 3 greatest strengths? Elaborate on your skills and how they can bring value to the company Ability to learn quickly Work well with minimal direction What you bring to the table Reliability Team player Skill Set Employment Experience
What are your weaknesses? Don’t make yourself look bad Offer positive weaknesses  Overachiever I tend to be a perfectionist Sometimes pay too much attention to detail **Stay Relevant- Don’t say something like “I have a tendency to overfeed by dog”.
Why is your tenure short in places? Offer a brief explanation Downsized Consulting/contracting gigs Company ran out of funding
Please explain the large gap in your resume? “ Looking for a job for 3 years” is not an appropriate answer You took the time to further your education If family was the reason, explain that you are re-entering the workforce Academic enhancement Certifications **You need to be flexible in the  salary offered
What do you feel qualifies you? Take previous work experience and draw parallels to the job you are being interviewed for Skills Work environment/culture Small/large company
What would former managers or supervisors say about you? No sugar coating-BE HONEST Would they say you were an asset? That you brought solutions to the table? That you were a star employee? **Elaborate if you feel the reference would be important
What do you bring to the table that others do not? What is it that YOU possess from experience/ knowledge that makes YOU the strongest candidate?
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? Be careful answering- Don’t appear to want interviewer's job You may be asked aspirations for the future I hope to have grown with the company Leveraged my skill set Benefitted the company through my experience
Why are you leaving one field for another? Parting from accounting to pursue the legal field? Not my true passion No longer provides challenge **Realize that you may be offered a junior level opportunity starting out
Any prohibitions from working long or extra hours? Hiring Managers want FLEXIBLE people Surprises down the road will not be appreciated by the employer  Be realistic Be honest
Do you have any questions for me? Always research your potential employer   Have a series of questions prepared No questions may give the impression that you were not thoroughly prepared
