“ Linking Systems to Strategy” Understanding the national healthcare policy framework in order to assess varying approaches to the development of an electronic health record (EHR)
“ The New Zealand health system lacks a coherent IT strategy and there is no architecture proposed that will allow sharing of records” Ron Paterson, Health and Disability Commissioner, February 2008 (Report to Parliament, as reported in NZ Doctor, 2 July 2008)
Today’s Objectives Develop an understanding of the New Zealand health system’s ‘User Requirements’  What is important?  What is not important?  What are the key considerations in designing a system architecture? What are some of the alternative approaches we might take?
Today’s Focus Morning Our health system over the next 5-25 years.  What will it look like?  What are its information needs? Afternoon  How best can we meet those needs?  Interpreting the sector’s requirements  Canvassing possible solutions
