Importance of Error Analysis
High marks lowered by high number of errors!
Error Analysis Skills

Check for 4 main types of errors:
1) P – Punctuation
2) I – Items
3) G – Grammar
4) S - Spelling
Punctuation

When giving quotes
Quote a word from the passage that means 'very
scared'.
The word is 'terrified'. (terrified X)

When introducing connectors
What were the reasons the girl went missing?
She did not follow instructions , and she went out
alone at night. (instructions and... X)

1. Write down two strengths of Adam's character.
He was determined and trustworthy. (...tall and
athletic X)
2. Why did the girl climb the tree when she saw
the tiger?
She climbed the tree to save her life, as she knew
that tigers could not climb tree too high.

Grammar

Tenses, Aspects, Subject-Verb and
Singular/Plural
Why do you think Alice failed to achieve a
passing grade at the end?
Alice were (was X) too playful and did not
study (studied X) hard for her examinations

Spelling

Some uncommon words are tested in
comprehension.
What did the author do to prove his point?
He had to redo his entire assignment
(asignment X) to prove that it was his own
work.

Answer the question
Beads of sweat were rolling down Oscar's forehead,
and into his eyes. This was the third time in three
days that he was late for school. His classmates had
just started strolling into class. Scanning around, he
inched his way along the windowsill, waiting for the
right time to slide into his seat.
What was Oscar trying to do?
He is trying to make his way into the class without
anyone notice.
Learning Activity Answer
Beads of sweat were rolling down Oscar's forehead,
and into his eyes. This was the third time in three
days that he was late for school. His classmates had
just started strolling into class. Scanning around, he
inched his way along the windowsill, waiting for the
right time to slide into his seat.
What was Oscar trying to do?
He is (was) trying to make his way into the class
(classroom) without anyone notice (noticing).

We use PIGS to remind ourselves not to be a pig
(lazy) when checking.

Error analysis skills is the final step to ensure
that all your answers have met the questions
requirements as well as as having proper
language.

Mistakes in this stage, after having the correct
answer, will prove disastrous as you will be
penalised for language or half-correct answers.

Depending on the severity of your language
errors or missing points, zero marks may be
awarded.
