The loggerhead sea turtle is a large marine reptile classified as belonging to the kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Reptilia, order Testudines, family Cheloniidae, and genus and species Caretta caretta. It can grow to over 3 feet in length and weigh up to 350 pounds, with its shell usually reddish-brown and its skin light yellow. Unlike other sea turtles, it has a relatively small head but powerful jaws adapted for crushing hard-shelled prey.
