- 2. The Idea • The basic idea behind it was to create three separate interpretations inspired by the same idea, similar to the Five Obstructions. The idea was about creating loops, to both symbolise time, as well as commenting on a particular criticism or aspect of cinema. • Each interpretation will follow the brief’s set rules, including using one protagonist, and using our loops to create the feeling of a hyper-imposed long take. • We have also added our own self-imposed rules in order to ensure that we all create a looping effect, and it links the three interpretations together.

Interpretation 2 : Pacing • Set in a large open room, this will have the camera constantly pulling out from the same start point at a varying, inconsistent, pace so as to get further away from the start point and to reach the final end point. • Each time the camera snaps back from the start point, the subject in the shot will have moved, creating the disruption to the loop visually as well as filmicly as the character fulfills a function in the room. The captured stillness will also give each snap the appearance of a photograph. • Aurally the soundscape will be mostly that of white noise or a record player with no track. • Our inspiration for this section came from the short “The Perfect Human: Cuba” (Jørgen Leath) and its’ imposed rule of each edit only being twelve frames, to create a swift and unnatural pace within the piece.
