Madame Tussauds was founded by Marie Tussaud, who was born in France in 1761. She learned wax modeling from Dr. Philippe Curtius and became involved in making death masks of French Revolution victims. In 1802, Marie moved to London with her wax figures and established the first Madame Tussauds museum. It has since expanded to become a major tourist attraction with locations around the world, featuring wax figures of historical figures, world leaders, celebrities, and British royalty.
