Makalah ini disusun agar pembaca dapat menambah wawasan yang lebih luas tentang Materi Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Pengertian dan Contoh Procedure Text Procedure text memiliki tiga definisi, yaitu : (1) Teks yang menjelaskan bagaimana cara sesuatu dapat bekerja atau teks yang menjelaskan cara menggunakan pedoman instruksi / penggunaan. Contoh : Cara menggunakan komputer, cara menggunakan mesin fotokopi, dll. (2) Teks yang menunjukan cara melakukan aktifitas tertentu. Contoh : resep masakan, aturan bermain game, keamanan berkendara, dll. (3) Teks yang berhubungan dengan tingkah laku manusia. Contoh : cara menuju sukses, cara hidup bahagia, dll. Dari definisi di atas maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa procedure text bertujuan untuk membantu atau memberitahu pembaca cara melakukan / membuat sesuatu. Informasi disajikan dengan urutan peristiwa yang logis. Peristiwa tersebut dibagi menjadi beberapa langkah. B. Generic Structure of Procedure Text 1. Goal (Maksud atau tujuan) 2. Material Needed (Alat / Materi / Bahan yang diperlukan) 3. Methods or Steps (Langkah-langkah / metode) *Catatan : Pada procedure text yang berjudul “How to . . .” biasanya tidak memerlukan aturan. C. Contoh Procedure Text CAP CAY (Indonesian Style)
- 5. 2 CAP CAY (Indonesian Style) Cap Cay is a Indonesian food that is from influence of Chinese food. A lot of Indonesian people adapt this recipe and you can find every region in Indonesia, especially at Chinese or seafood restaurant. The word CAP CAY is from Chinese Fujian dialect, which mean “mixed vegetable”. Although this is vegetable recipe, but you can combine with prawn, chicken, beef, squid, tofu or meatball. This recipe is very easy and fast to cook. (Serving for 3-4 person) Ingredients : 1.7 oz (50 g) of sugar snap peas 2 Chicken thighs (bone and thinly sliced) 2 carrots (thinly sliced) 1 large tomato (cut into wedges) 3.5 oz (100 g) broccoli/cauliflower florets 5-6 wild mushrooms (sliced) 1 bunch of Chinese broccoli (washed and roughly chopped) 2 cloves of garlic (finely chopped) 2 teaspoon ginger (finely chopped) ½ onions (thinly sliced) 1 C of chicken stock 2 Tbsp of corn starch (more if needed) dissolved in 1 Tbsp water Salt and pepper to taste 1 Tbsp oyster sauce 2 Tbsp of Olive oil/ Canola oil Instructions : 1. Heat up oil in the wok. Add in garlic, onions, ginger and stir fry until they are fragrant 2. Add in chicken meat and oyster sauce. Saute until it is cooked. Add in broccoli/ cauliflower florets, carrots, snap peas, chinese broccoli, and tomato wedges and cook until they are soft 3. Add in chicken stock and let it simmer for about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper
- 6. 3 4. Add in corn starch mixture and stir until the sauce is thickened. If it’s not thickened enough, you can repeat the corn starch mixture and add more 5. Remove from the heat and place on the serving plate. Serve immediately with rice and other dishes. 6. Enjoy the food. Contoh Procedure Text 2 How to Study English Effectively There are many ways to study English, but many students ask which is the most effective. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a single answer that is right for every student. However … I can certainly give advice. Here are some helpful guidelines as to how to study that should help. Activating Your Vocabulary Activate your vocabulary by thinking or speaking briefly about the subject you are about to work on. For example, if you are going to study English on topics that focuses on vacations, take a moment to think about your last vacation, what you did, what you enjoyed, etc. This simple exercise will help your brain warm-up to vocabulary that you are likely to encounter as you study English about this particular subject. Activating Your Grammar Activate your grammar by thinking about the general grammar area before you begin to study. For example, if you are going to study English grammar focusing on the past, stop to think about what you did last weekend, where you went, etc. to help activate what you already understand about using the past. As with activating vocabulary, you’ll help your brain bring up what it knows about the past simple in an easy way before you begin to focus on studying English grammar in detail. Singing a Song Before class begins, or before you sit down to study English sing a song in English to yourself. Make sure to use a song that you understand and know very well. This short and fun exercise will help your brain focus on the English language in a relaxing manner. It’s important to be relaxed when you study English! Singing a song also helps activate the creative side of your brain which can help you come up with more examples as your practice conversation or do some creative writing.
- 7. 4 Typing a Short Paragraph in English If you going to study English at your desk, begin by typing a simple paragraph in English. You can type about your day, your hobbies, your friends, etc. Anything will do. Typing helps activate the kinetic part of your brain that helps improve learning through physical activity. I also recommend typing while you study your English grammar. This will help solidify your knowledge with movement. A Thousand Words … As the saying goes in English: A picture is worth a thousand words. Help activate the creative side of your brain by trying to describe a photo or other image. You can combine use this also to activate your vocabulary by choosing a picture that has something to do with the subject your are going to study in English. Study English – Tips for Success Here are some tips for success to help you as you study English. Study English Every Day It’s important to study English every day. However, don’t exaggerate! Study for thirty minutes every day instead of two hours once a week. Short, steady practice is much better for learning than long periods on an irregular basis. This habit of studying English every day will help keep English in your brain fresh. Study English Using Different Methods to Learn Don’t just use one way to study English. Use a variety of methods which will help all the parts of your brain (multiple intelligences) help you. For example, if you are learning new vocabulary, create a word map, describe a picture, make a list and study that, type out the words five times. All of these methods together help to reinforce your learning. Study English by Finding some Friends There is nothing like having a few friends to study English together. You can practice the exercises together, have conversations together (in English!), and, as you study English together, help each other with exercises you may not understand. Study English by Choosing Topics that Interest You One of the most important things to do is to study English using topics that you like. This will help motivate you because you will also be learning about a topic you find interesting while you study English.
- 8. 5 BAB II REPORT TEXT A. Pengertian Report Text adalah teks yang mendeskripsikan sesuatu atau benda-benda secara umum, contohnya berbagai benda atau fenomena alam, buatan dan sosial yang ada atau terjadi di lingkungan kita. Teks report mengupas suatu hasil pengamatan, penelaahan, penelitian, observasi, atau study tentang benda atau binatang, orang atau tempat. Report Text hampir sama dengan Descriptive Text yang membedakan adalah objek yang diceritakan berbentuk jamak, sedangkan objek yang diceritakan pada Descriptive Text berbentuk tunggal. B. Generic Structure Report Text 1. General classification (Klasifikasi umum) : pengantar tentang sesuatu atau fenomena yang akan dibahas. 2. Description (Deskripsi) : menerangkan sesuatu atau fenomena yang dibahas, meliputi bagian-bagian, kualitas dan perilaku. C. Ciri-ciri Report Text : 1. Menggunakan pola kalimat Simple Present Tense 2. Menggunakan kata benda umum (general nouns) 3. Menggunakan kata kerja yang saling berhubungan (relating verbs) 4. Terdiri dari sebuah objek ditambah objek tentang alam lainnya. Contoh Report Text : ELEPHANT
- 9. 6 Elephant is the largest and strongest of all animals. It is a strange looking animal which it has thick legs, huge sides and backs, large hanging ears, a small tail, little eyes, long white tusks and above all, elephant has a long nose, the trunk. An elephant is commonly seen in a zoo, it is hard to find in its natural habitat. The trunk is the elephant's peculiar feature. This trunk has various usages. The elephant draws up water by its trunk and can squirt the water all over its body like a shower bath. The elephant's trunk also lifts leaves and put them into its mouth. In fact, the trunk serves the elephant as long arm and hand. An elephant looks very clumsy and heavy and yet an elephant can move very quickly. The elephant is very intelligent animal. Its intelligence combined with its great strength makes an elephant a very useful servant to man. Elephant can be trained to serve in various ways such as carry heavy loads, hunt for tigers and even fight. An elephant is really a smart animal.
