Make Way for
Ducklings…Again
 Adapted by: Anna Magruder
Many years ago, there lived
a happy duck family, the
Mallards, who searched
everywhere for a home.
Mr. and Mrs. Mallard finally found a
home in the Boston Park. There they
raised eight ducklings:
Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Oack, Pa
ck and Quack.
The ducklings had several
adventures in the Boston Public
Garden, and the community loved
them!
The city loved them so much that
the people of Boston created a
statue in honor of the Mallards.
Now that
Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Oack, Pack
, and Quack are all grown up, they too
are raising ducklings in the Boston
Public Garden. There are so many
ducklings that you can hardly count

Garden, Jack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Oack,

One day, the large duck family
experienced something terrifying.
The four youngest of all the
ducklings, Zach, Tack, Wack and
Gack, were playing a friendly game
of “water hide and go seek”.
As they were playing, Zach got himself
caught in a plastic soda ring. He wasn't
able to move his body, and he became very
scared. Tack, Wack, and Gack were also
scared and didn't know what to do.
The parent ducks rushed over to
help Zach. But they were not able
to do much.
A young boy noticed the small
duckling was in distress. He
rushed over to help free the
duckling.
The family was so thankful for the
young boy’s heroic actions that they
all waddled out of the water and
gave the boy a big duck thank you!
Seeing the young duckling trapped in the
soda ring inspired the young boy to
organize a park clean up day. The young
boy got the word out by hanging flyers
and telling everyone he knew. The
following Saturday, hundreds of people
came to help clean up the park.
By the end of the day, the park was
litter free. All of the hard work eased
the minds of
Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Oack, Pac
k and Quack. Now they can let their
ducklings play all throughout the
