The Makingof a Mighty Man/Womanof GODBy David Waltershttp://internetpreachersforchrist.blogspot.com/2009/04/making-of-mighty-man-of-god.html
The making of a mighty man!NO!
The Making Of A Super HeroNO!
The Making of a Mighty Man of GodYES!
It has been said, “Let us men not just be men, but let us be MEN OF GOD, and let us not just be women, but WOMEN OF GOD.” Do you today want to be a mighty man or woman of God? What did God stir up in the life of Moses to make him the mighty man he became? Will this work in our lives as well?
This day for Moses started out as a very normal day. Like most of Moses’ days in his 40 years in the desert, it was likely to be a run of the mill day and with no real outlook of much happening. The sun rose, the sheep grazed. But this will be an extraordinary day, for this barren landscape turns out to be a divine location for a visitation of God.
Exodus 3:1 NETNow Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.
Moses is about to have fellowship with God Almighty. Before this day is over God is going to reveal to Moses His plan and purpose for his life and it is a grand plan and has a great purpose.
 1. Any ordinary day becomes an extraordinary day, when God steps on the scene. 2. Any ordinary person can become an extraordinary person, when the Lord God is in their lives. 3. And any ordinary church can become extraordinary church, when God becomes its power!
THE DIVINE APPONTMENTExodus 3:2NETThe angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked — and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!
There was no real greatness in Moses. But when the common is touched by the Divine, then the common becomes uncommon. God is pleased to use average, ordinary people. You do not have to be the smartest or the most talented, those qualities often hinder one from looking to God. God gets much more glory when an average believer allows Him to fill them and use them.
Now hear this:If you promise to live a dedicated Christian life, to be faithful, to become a disciple of Jesus, to read your Bible and pray and forsake sin, there will be a lot of ordinary days, but there will also be many times when the bush (your inner spirit) will burn with fire! And it is a great feeling!
Moses was glad to hear that God had not forgotten His people, and was coming down to deliver them. But he was not as thrilled when he heard that God wanted to give him the job of being the leader!  Moses wanted the job done, but did not want to do the job.
Exodus 3:3 NETSo Moses thought, "I will turn aside to see this amazing sight. Why does the bush not burn up?"4When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."
In verse 4 Moses said, “Here I am.” He is not the only one who said that. Isaiah did too, but he said, “Here I am, send me.” BUT, Moses said, ‘Here I am, who, me?’ ‘Can’t you send someone else?’
THE DIVINE ANNONCEMENTExodus 3:5 NETGod said, "Do not approach any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."6He added, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Then Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Notice these verbs: seen, heard, know.7 The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
Notice these phrases:come down, deliver them, bring them up8 I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a land that is both good and spacious, to a land flowing with milk and honey...
When I could not go to Him, He came to me! What a beautiful Old Testament picture of the gospel this is. Moses was glad to hear that God had not forgotten His people, and was coming down to deliver them. But he was not as thrilled when he heard that God wanted to give him the job of being the leader!
And there are many like that in the church today, they are glad for all that God is doing in the church, as long as they do not have to do the work. Moses wanted the job done, but did not want to do the job.
THE DIVINE ASSGNMENTThe rest of chapters 3 and 4 are full ofMoses excuses for why he is not the right man for the job.I have no ability.I have no message.I have no authority.I have no eloquence.I have no inclination! I do not want to do this!God answered every excuse. And there is also a New Testament answer to each.
“I have no ability” Exodus 3:11 NETMoses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, or that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"
“I will be with you” Exodus 3:12 NETHe replied, "Surely I will be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you bring the people out of Egypt, you and they will serve God on this mountain."
Maybe you are being called by God to do something big, and you are saying, “Who am I to do such a thing?” 2 Peter 1:3 NETI can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence.
God says, “I will be with you!” See, I’ve given you everything you need by your gaining knowledge of Me. How do we obtain this knowledge if not from His Word? May I reinforce this idea by referring to the Apostle Paul’s 2nd letter to Timothy?
2 Timothy 3:16 NETEvery scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,17that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.Where God guides, He provides; where He directs, He protects; where He sends, He extends!
“I have no message” Exodus 3:13 NETMoses said to God, "If I go to the Israelites and tell them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' — what should I say to them?"
“I AM is your message” Exodus 3:14 NETGod said to Moses, "I AM that I AM." And he said, "You must say this to the Israelites, 'I AM has sent me to you.' "
“I AM” is the most powerful name of God there is. The Eternally Existent One, past, present, and future. Jesus is the great I AM. He said, before Abraham was, I AM. To those still in the dark, Jesus says, “I am the light.”b.	To those still hungering for something they do not have, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.”c.	To those in need of guidance, Jesus says, “I am the way.”
Our message today is the Gospel, the Good News which includes all the “I Am” statements Jesus made. Mark 16:15 NETHe said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.
“I have no authority” Exodus 4:1 NETMoses answered again, "And if they do not believe me or pay attention to me, but say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you'?"
What is the NT answer to this ‘no authority’ excuse? Matthew 28:18 NETThen Jesus came up and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."Jesus Sends Us By HIS Authority!
God is saying this to us today. God uses whatever is available. The best ability is availability! One day a small boy had nothing but a sling in his hand, but God used him to slay a giant!Another small boy much later had just a lunch box, but God super sized it, for He specializes in multiplying what we have for His honor and glory! Just put what little you have into God’s hands and watch what HE can do with it!
“I have no eloquence” Exodus 4:10 NETThen Moses said to the LORD, "O my Lord, I am not an eloquent man, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant, for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."
Did he stutter? Was he not a people person? I doubt it, because Acts 7:22NET says:So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his words and deeds.
Exodus 4:11 NETThe LORD said to him, "Who gave a mouth to man, or who makes a person mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?“I made your mouth and I can fill it when the time comes!” What Moses is really saying is,“Please, send someone else!”
As Christians we have God’s Spirit to help us. Matthew 10:18 NETAnd you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles. 19 Whenever they hand you over for trial, do not worry about how to speak or what to say, for what you should say will be given to you at that time. 20 For it is not you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Philippians 2:12d NET …continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence,13for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort — for the sake of his good pleasure — is God.This means that if you are willing to do what you are called to do, God will then put the desireand the effort (actions-abilities) in your heart to do it.
I have no inclination! I do not want to do this.God answered every excuse in the life of Moses. And there is also a New Testament answer to you. We cannot claim to Love God and not do His will!John 14:15 NET "If you love me, you will obey my commandments.
I ask again the same question. Do you this morning want to be a mighty man or woman of God?Just lay what you have before God, no excuses, and you will see what God can do!
“Let us men not just be men, husbands, and fathers, but let us be MEN OF GOD, and let the women not just be women, wives, and mothers, but WOMEN OF GOD.” You need to be ready for God to use you!
In Jesus You Are MIGHTY!A Mighty Man/Woman toGod!A Mighty Son/Daughter to Your Parents!A Mighty Brother/Sister to Your Family!A Mighty Husband/Wife to Your Spouse!A Mighty Parent to Your Children!A Mighty Helper to Your Coworkers!A Mighty Friend to Your Neighbors!
